The Post-Christmas Spending Peak. While the wealthy spend big on Black Friday, data reveals that households earning under $100k actually peak in spending between December 25th and 27th. This trend is driven by people spending holiday gift cards and hitting the massive post-Christmas return sales. It looks like the "real" shopping season doesn't even start until the presents are already unwrapped.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - On December 22, 1882, Edward H. Johnson, an associate of Thomas Edison, displayed the first string of electric Christmas tree lights at his home in New York City.
The tree featured 80 red, white, and blue walnut-sized bulbs. Before this, people used actual candles on trees, which—as you can imagine—was a massive fire hazard. However, the electric lights didn't catch on immediately because they were incredibly expensive; a string of lights cost about $300 in 1880s money (over $8,000 today).
(plus Christmas eve he had to replace a string because one light went out, then the whole strand went out....every year....every..year.)
