Today is Get Ready Day. It's all about emergency kits.

Ready.gov tells you how to make a basic emergency supply kit.

To assemble your kit store items in airtight plastic bags and put your entire disaster supplies kit in one or two easy-to-carry containers such as plastic bins or a duffel bag.

It should include:

-Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)

-Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)

-Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert

-Flashlight

-First aid kit

-Extra batteries

-Whistle (to signal for help)

-Dust mask (to help filter contaminated air)

-Plastic sheeting, scissors and duct tape (to shelter in place)

-Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)

-Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)

-Manual can opener (for food)

-Local maps

-Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

The debate starts now....

Apparently there's a Costco in Florida that already has Christmas decorations up for sale.

Technically, it's still summer until September 22nd.  Let’s nor forget Fall and Thanksgiving!  But not for Costco.  They're ready to celebrate the yuletide right now.

A shopper in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, shared photos of a bunch of Christmas displays set up at their local store . . . even though Halloween candy is dominating the aisles.

I work in retail and my store is a season ahead..and people buy it!!!! Products..well i'm ok with it..but let's keep the music off till the day after Thanksgiving.

Not all heroes wear capes, and kids know it too.  A new poll asked kids 11 and under what it means to be a "hero."  The top attributes they mentioned included bravery, kindness, and helping others.  39% associate the word "hero" with a parent.  24% said the same about teachers.

Sharon Osbourne made her first statement since Ozzy's passing.

Quote, "I'm still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you've shown on social media.  Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know.

"None of it has gone unnoticed, in fact, it's carried me through many nights.  Though I'm still finding my footing, I wanted to share some glorious creatures I had the chance to spend an afternoon with."

Sharon shared a video of her and Kelly's newfound hobby: falconry.  She said the experience was nothing short of magical.

She added, quote, "The connection you make with these powerful birds is built entirely on trust and confidence.  They'll choose to perch on you only if they sense you are safe and unafraid of them.  It's a bond I know all too well."

There's a new reason couples are setting up credit card machines at the bar:  To help pay for the honeymoon.

One couple in the U.K. tried it, using a card-processing company that provided readers . . . like the ones they bring to your table at restaurants.

There were also signs with QR codes . . . with the message:  "Don't be tight, pay for our flight!"  The couple said the proceeds would go toward their honeymoon in Mexico.  They didn't reveal how much they made, but they said their guests "absolutely loved it."

They did it instead of accepting wedding presents.  They've been together for 14 years . . . and already have a house, and a toaster, and didn't need more stuff.

So why the credit card readers?

They said a lot of people don't carry cash anymore, and they just figured they'd "have some fun with it."  They said their guests "got more generous as the drinks started to flow."

"Boyfriend glow-ups" are trending on TikTok.  Basically, women are bragging about how much they've improved their guy's style.

The best ones show guys from years ago, like a decade-plus.  Then a shot of them today looking like they stepped out of "GQ".  The most common changes are new haircuts, cooler clothes, and tidier facial hair.

There's an urban legend that you swallow eight spiders a year while you sleep, but it's not true . . . almost every single person will swallow ZERO in their lifetime.  It was made up by a writer making FUN of stupid urban legends and gullible people.

An average of seven people DIE from spider bites every year in the United States . . . and three times that many people are killed by COWS.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - "Sugar rushes" aren't real and are just psychological, or a "cultural effect of parental influence."  Sugar does not affect behavior or cognitive performance.

Sugar CRASHES are a real thing . . . but medically, it's rare.  According to doctors, only "about 5% of us experience sugar crash."  You're more likely to experience it if you do a tough workout on an empty stomach.
