Yellow Pigs Day - the main focus of the day is on celebrating the number 17. The day was created in the early 1960s by two Princeton math students, Michael Spivak and David Kelly, after they had been working with and listing the properties of the number 17. David had a collection of yellow pigs.

World Emoji Day

Be truthful, how many emojis do you actually use?
Be truthful, how many emojis do you actually use?

You might think it has something to do with emotion or emoticon, but the word actually comes from the Japanese words e (絵, meaning "picture") and moji (文字, meaning "character").

The very first set of 176 emojis—created in 1999 by Japanese designer Shigetaka Kurita for mobile phones—was so culturally significant that the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City added them to its permanent architecture and design collection in 2016. They were incredibly pixelated, measuring just $12 \times 12$ pixels.

An enthusiast named Fred Benenson ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to translate Herman Melville's classic novel Moby Dick into emoji. The resulting book, titled Emoji Dick, pairs every single sentence of the original text with its emoji translation.

In 2015, the Oxford English Dictionary chose the 😂 (Face with Tears of Joy) emoji as its "Word of the Year". It was the first time a pictograph had ever won the title, selected because it was the most used emoji globally that year and best captured the ethos, mood, and preoccupations of 2015.

New in Theaters

The Odyssey - from Christopher Nolan and the Classic Book by Homer, enjoy this mythic action epic with Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and John Leguizamo.

The majority of Americans believe in aliens, and we really do think they come in peace. According to a Pew Research study, about 63 percent of people said they think there is intelligent alien life on other planets, and 21 percent say humans have already made contact.

Today’s Useless Fact of the Day -

If you have an open paperclip like this in your pocket, you have issues!
