Father's Day is June 21st!

Make your plans now.

The holiday was first proposed in 1909 by Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington. She wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran who raised her and her five siblings as a single parent after her mother passed away.

It wasn't officially signed into law as a permanent national holiday until 1972 by President Richard Nixon.

This year’s top "gift" trend leans toward shared experiences. Axe throwing, family cooking classes, and "backyard movie nights" are trending high for families looking to create memories rather than just exchanging physical goods.

But Dad likes tech too. Practical tech is huge in 2026. Think solar power banks for the outdoorsy dad or wireless charging pads for the desk-bound dad. For apparel, "Dad Mode: Activated" graphics continue to be a top-seller.

The happiness of over 18,000 people worldwide has been predicted by a mathematical equation developed by researchers at UCL, with results showing that moment-to-moment happiness reflects not just how well things are going, but whether things are going better than expected.

The new equation accurately predicts exactly how happy people will say they are from moment to moment based on recent events, such as the rewards they receive and the expectations they have during a decision-making task. Scientists found that overall wealth accumulated during the experiment was not a good predictor of happiness. Instead, moment-to-moment happiness depended on the recent history of rewards and expectations. These expectations depended, for example, on whether the available options could lead to good or bad outcomes.

it was known that life events affect an individual’s happiness but not exactly how happy people will be from moment to moment as they make decisions and receive outcomes resulting from those decisions, something the new equation can predict.

Why? It gives a better understanding of how mood is determined by life events and circumstances, and how that differs in people suffering from mood disorders, which will hopefully lead to more effective treatments.

Today is National Egg Day.

What is America's favorite way to cook eggs?

Boiled eggs are the most-loved egg, with 17 states, almost exclusively northern states, picking them as their favorite, including Pennsylvania.

The West Coast, the Southwest states, and some East Coast states favor soft-boiled eggs. The rest of America (30 states) prefers a hard-boiled egg.

Poached eggs are the next most popular style of egg, winning in 10 states. Omelets (Hey, New York) and scrambled eggs are close behind, claiming the top spot in 9 states. Scrambled eggs came in last with only 5 states to its name.

Fried eggs are most popular in the southeast, while the love for poached eggs and omelets is pretty spread out.

Florida is the only state to favor over-well fried eggs.

A whopping 25 states favor the over-easy fried egg. Most of these states are in the northern half of America. 16 states favored over-medium eggs, and 9 prefer a sunny-side-up egg.

On the West Coast, you’re most likely to be served an over-medium egg with your breakfast.

The rural town of Ōamaru, New Zealand, officially took over global social media after hosting the world's premier Steampunk Festival. Thousands of eccentric travelers descended on the town dressed as sci-fi Victorian personas (complete with custom, steam-venting brass backpacks) to participate in highly competitive events. One of the highlights were "Teapot Racing"—where contestants drive remote-controlled teapots through obstacle courses—and "Parasol Dueling," a strictly regulated tactical umbrella showdown.

A new fashion philosophy called "Books as Looks" is dominating summer style trends. High-end fashion editors report that consumers are completely pivoting away from matching their accessories to their shoes; instead, they are coordinating their daily outfits, luxury straw totes, and vintage silk scarves to match the cover art of the physical paperback novel they are carrying around for public reading.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - It is World Bicycle Day.

There are over 1 billion bicycles in use worldwide—twice as many as cars.
