There is hot, and then there is hot! Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to death. Extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards.
Older adults, children and people with certain illnesses and chronic conditions are at greater risk from extreme heat.
Humidity increases the feeling of heat.
How to help -
Cover windows with drapes or shades.
Weather-strip doors and windows.
Use window reflectors specifically designed to reflect heat back outside.
Add insulation to keep the heat out.
Use a powered attic ventilator, or attic fan, to regulate the heat level of a building’s attic by clearing out hot air.
Install window air conditioners and insulate around them.
Take cool showers or baths.
Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
Use your oven less to help reduce the temperature in your home.
If you’re outside, find shade. Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face. Wear your sunscreen too.
Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol.
Avoid high-energy activities or work outdoors, during midday heat, if possible.
Check on family members, older adults and neighbors.
Consider pet safety. If they are outside, make sure they have plenty of cool water and access to comfortable shade. Asphalt and dark pavement can be very hot to your pet’s feet.

Heat-Related Illnesses
Know the signs of heat-related illnesses and ways to respond. If you are sick and need medical attention, contact your healthcare provider for advice and shelter in place if you can.
HEAT STROKE
Signs:
-Extremely high body temperature (above 103 degrees F) taken orally
-Red, hot and dry skin with no sweat
-Rapid, strong pulse
-Dizziness, confusion or unconsciousness
If you suspect heat stroke, call 9-1-1 or get the person to a hospital immediately. if possible: move the person suffering from heat stroke into a cool, shaded area; remove any outer clothing; place a cold wet cloth or ice pack on the head, neck, armpits and groin, or soak the person’s clothing with cool water; elevating their feet.
HEAT CRAMPS
Signs: Muscle pains or spasms in the stomach, arms or legs
HEAT EXHAUSTION
Signs: Heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, fast or weak pulse, dizziness, headache, fainting, nausea, vomiting
If you have signs of heat cramps or heat exhaustion, go to a cooler location and cool down by removing excess clothing and taking sips of sports drinks or water. Call your healthcare provider if symptoms get worse or last more than an hour.

It's finally summer, and a lot of people have a little extra free time. But . . . hobbies are not cheap. Every single one seems to have a rabbit hole that can be very expensive to follow.
Someone asked the internet, "What's the cheapest hobby someone can get into?" Here are some of the most popular responses . . .
1. Reading, especially when you borrow books . . . just get a library card.
2. Bird-watching . . . there's a free app called Merlin Bird ID.
3. Writing . . . journaling, poetry, or even fan-fiction about Taylor Swift's cats.
4. Rock collecting . . . just walk around, and pick up rocks or "minerals."
5. Exercise . . . it's easier to be active without a gym membership in the summer.
6. Chess or board gaming.
7. Origami . . . there are plenty of instructional videos on YouTube.
8. Geocaching . . . the Geocaching app is free, although there's a premium tier.
9. Cooking . . . it'll probably help with meal costs in the long run too.
10. Drawing / art / crafts . . . this is another one with free tutorials online.
11. Casual hiking or camping . . . at least until you want specialized gear.
12. Gardening . . . like a lot of things, it can easily get expensive, but it doesn't have to be, especially if you grow from seeds and propagate existing plants.
13. Lock picking . . . and if you get good enough, it could be a net gain.
14. Pickleball . . . if you haven't tried it yet, just ask any local senior citizen, "what's the DILL-io."
15. Collecting brochures . . . someone said, "I collect . . . brochures from visitors centers, hotels, museums, and so on. And most of the time I don't have to pay."

Netflix is looking to remake another classic TV series. The streamer has closed a deal with Legendary Television for Land of the Lost, a reboot of Sid and Marty Krofft’s 1974 sci-fi adventure show about Marshal, Will, and Holly..on a routine expedition, Met the greatest earthquake ever known.

They accidentally go through a portal and find themselves trapped in a world inhabited by dinosaurs, including a Tyrannosaurus rex they nickname Grumpy; primate-like people named Pakuni, one of whom, Cha-Ka, they befriend; and reptilian humanoids called Sleestak.
It's all in the early stages..but I'm down!!!!

Rob Lowe knows his go-to workout song is cheesy. In fact, he admits it's, quote, "the cheesiest thing in the world." And yet he's not afraid to announce it to the entire world.
It's "Eye of the Tiger", the 1982 hit from "Rocky 3".
He says, quote, "You can't go wrong. If I want to knock off a set of 20 . . . or go for a max bench press, I've got to have that on. You're not raw dogging and doing your max bench press [without that song]. That's not happening."
Rob usually only works out to music when he's doing stuff like cardio. Quote, "If I'm on the elliptical or if I'm on the Peloton or doing incline stuff I'll put music on, because you're just grinding. You're on the hamster wheel."

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Zebras don't have black and white stripes . . . they're black and covered in white stripes.
