National Root Beer Day (also Stewart’s Root Beer)

A Philadelphia pharmacist named Charles Hires is widely credited with creating the first commercial brand of root beer in 1876. He originally wanted to call it "Root Tea" to appeal to miners and laborers in Pennsylvania as a healthy, non-alcoholic option.

A friend convinced him that rough-and-tumble laborers would never buy "tea," so he changed the name to Root Beer to make it sound more robust.

Women were asked: What article of men’s clothing is a huge turn-off?

Survey says:

Crocs

Tank tops with the side cut out down to the hip

Clunky, lazy shoes like generic sneakers and HeyDudes

Cell phone belt pouch

Flip-flops

Jeans sagging low enough to show underwear

Tight skinny jeans that cling like leggings.

These two I won't give you!!! You can pry them off my cold dead legs and feet when I die!

Cargo shorts (Chinos are more adult)

Ankle socks

Graphic tees with edgy, rude, or “funny” slogans (nothing wrong in the right situation!..back off)

Others - Socks with Sandals, Wrinkled clothing, Too Much Cologne and Overly Flashy Jewelry make the list as well.

To be fair, I checked with Reddit ladies and What are some fashion things that are a turn off to (most) men? (many of the comments were, depends on the men)

One lady has a list of things she's picked up from men in her life:

Very high waisted pants, so anything that’s near or over your belly button

Wide leg pants

Chunky shoes like Fila disruptors, Buffaloes or Doc Martens

Wedges (both sneakers and sandals)

Kitten heels

Very pointy heels

Cowboy boots

Those 90s choker necklaces

Heavy makeup, especially heavy colorful eye and lips

Long fake nails

Pantsuits

One lady said, according to my husband:

baseball hats

paperbag shorts (he didn't know they were called that he calls them diaper shorts)

he hated vintage mom jeans but has no strong feelings on modern ones from American Eagle.

he also asked one time why I was wearing a bathrobe to a concert - it was a kimono lmao.

Football fever has a brand-new face in Mexico City, and it belongs to a local celebrity named Merlin. Merlin is a fully grown domestic duck who has gone viral as an unofficial World Cup mascot.

His owners walk him down the city streets completely decked out in a custom-tailored, official green Mexico national soccer team jersey. Merlin draws massive crowds at local parks and cafes, completely stealing the spotlight from human players as fans line up just to take selfies with the jersey-wearing waterfowl before match days.

Looks like dinner parties are out!

Hosting stress is officially out, and "Cake Picnics" are officially in. Lifestyle trackers note that instead of organizing elaborate, high-pressure dinner parties, younger adults are pivoting to low-stakes outdoor gatherings. The premise is simple: friends meet at a local park, everyone brings a single, whimsical cake (or a playful breakfast grazing board), and they lounge on blankets for a casual afternoon. Searches for cake picnics have jumped 275% as people prioritize doable, budget-friendly ways to connect without the exhausting cleanup of a traditional house party.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Lady Liberty arrived in New York Harbor today in 1885, but she wasn’t the towering icon we know. She arrived in 350 individual pieces packed into 214 crates, and because funding for her pedestal had stalled, she sat in storage for months before being assembled in April 1886.
