The U.S. Treasury just announced a big change TO America's change. They'll officially stop making new pennies soon.
President Trump said in February that he'd ordered the U.S. Mint to stop making them. Every penny costs almost four cents to manufacture, so it's supposed to save money . . . an estimated $56 million a year.
The Treasury said it just placed its final order of blanks this month. And once those are minted, they're not making any more. The last pennies are set to roll off the production line early next year.
None of this means pennies are going away anytime soon, by the way. Around 114 BILLION are in circulation, and you'll still be able to use them.
The government makes more each year . . . or did . . . because so many pennies drop OUT of circulation. People toss them in change jars, leave them in their center console, or just throw them out.
By the way, nickels are costly as well and cost 14 cents to make, and stores don't want to get rid of the 0.99 price.

A random poll online asked, "If you saw a fly on a spider web, would you set it free?" And 97% of people said NO.
That makes sense. Not many people would go out of their way to save a fly . . . even if they claim they "wouldn't hurt a fly." Because let's be real, flies might be even more disliked than spiders. But there are some crazy people out there.
3% of people claim they WOULD save the fly from the spider's web. That's 21 people, of the 693 surveyed.

In state specific rankings, Elmira placed #9 in New York.
Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The average person's attention span for a single screen is 47 seconds . . . down from two-and-a-half minutes in 2004.
