Jon Del Sesto was trying to order something from a Chinese country and was told they won't ship to him because he lives in Rhode Island, which is an island.

He was not pleased by this, so wrote to the company explaining RI is indeed part of the contiguous United States.

Anker’s response?

“They have doubled down and told me that it's an island,” he posted.

Anker’s customer service response to Sesto: “We are sorry to say that we do not ship a product to an island as of yet.” (It's on a list with Puerto Rico, Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, and other territories that are actual islands.)

Good news though, Someone finally got a map and found that Rhode Island is..yes indeed, part of the contiguous 48. Whew!

Just to note, Rhode Island does hook to the mainland, but there are actual islands that make up part of the state.

Remember last week when the Jerusalem Post referred to the size of a new asteroid in pandas?? Well, they also referred to an asteroid that skimmed past earth recently as the size of 14 flamingos.

There was a trend a while back where people were "sleep streaming" . . . posting live, hours-long videos of themselves just sleeping. It was meant to be therapeutic . . . and not just weird.

Now, people are apparently posting live feeds of themselves working . . . just sitting at a desk typing away on a computer.

It's usually for remote work . . . and it can mimic being at an office where others around you are working.

Some people are calling this "body doubling" or "parallel working" . . . and one woman who does it streams five hours of herself working every day on TikTok. She's a data analyst . . . and she does occasionally take breaks to answer questions in her comments section.

She has over 100,000 followers, and her daily streams often get thousands of views. She describes what she does as "working alone together."

So is there any benefit to this, or is it a complete waste of time?

Supposedly, body doubling can help some people who struggle with ADHD and loneliness, as well as people who have trouble focusing in a remote environment.

An accountable "other" can boost their mood and productivity.

A new study found the average person spends almost FOUR HOURS A DAY trying to look more attractive. That's a sixth of your life, or a quarter of your waking hours.

Obviously you're not spending four hours on make-up, or choosing your outfit. They factored in everything we do to improve how we present ourselves.

The categories they included are: Make-up and cosmetics . . . hygiene . . . hair grooming . . . clothing . . . following a specific diet . . . and exercising in order to look better. They also let people list things that didn't fall into those categories.

They came up with four hours after polling more than 93,000 people in 93 different countries. So it's the global average, not just for people in the U.S.

The average for women is just under four hours. And for men, it's a little over three-and-a-half hours. So not a huge difference.

People who spend more than four hours a day do have one thing in common though. They tend to be very into social media.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Sports teams first visited the White House in 1865, when President Andrew Johnson welcomed baseball's Washington Nationals and Brooklyn Atlantics.
