1982 - The Nightfly - Donald Fagen

40 Years Ago - 1982 Donald Fagen released his debut solo album The Nightfly.

It was Fagen's first release without longtime Steely Dan collaborator Walter Becker but using many of the musicians and production staff who had worked on Steely Dan albums.

The first single I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World) refers to the "International Geophysical Year", an event that ran from July 1957 to December 1958. The I.G.Y. was an international scientific project promoting collaboration among the world's scientists.

The song made #26 on the Hot 100, #8 Adult Contemporary, #54 R&B. and #17 Mainstream Rock.

The second single made #70 and #34 AC. The video is considered one of the great videos of the early MTV era.
