Friday 10/24/25
Celebrate:
Black Thursday - Yes, I know it's Friday, but it's tied to 10/24/1929. a day when sellers traded close to thirteen million shares in panic on the New York Stock Exchange, and endured five billion dollars in losses. It's seen as being the start of what was the worst stock market crash in United States history, which was followed by the Great Depression.

Dave Ball, one half of the electro-pop duo Soft Cell, has died aged 66.
Ball formed Soft Cell with Marc Almond when they were both art students at Leeds Polytechnic in 1979, stamping their mark on the charts two years later with their synth-pop masterpiece debut, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret.
They first split in 1984 and didn’t get back together until 2000, but parted ways again five years later. In 2018, they announced one final show at London’s O2 Arena, which was intended to be their last hurrah, but Soft Cell couldn’t stop.

Do you like having a wild and crazy online life..while just sitting on the couch?
Now you can look like you went to a Halloween Party without leaving the couch.
A product designer at Meta has an app to help.
It uses A.I. to create fake photos of you in costume with other people partying around you.
The app just came out this month, but it's not specifically for Halloween. It's called Endless Summer because it's mainly meant for fake vacation pics.
You can try out either mode and do four photos for free. Then you have to pay if you want more.
The results seem a little hit or miss. Some people say it worked great. Others say the photos it spit out didn't look like them.

Crayola just released results from a huge poll they did to find out what our favorite crayon color is.
They asked people in 183 different countries. And if you've ever seen "The Devil Wears Prada", you'll know exactly what this shade is.
The most popular crayon color in the world is cerulean. It's the shade of Anne Hathaway's blue sweater in the scene where Meryl Streep shames her.

The top three crayon colors are all muted shades of blue and purple: Cerulean blue . . . Robin's Egg blue . . . and Wisteria purple. They're also the top three in the U.S.
Blue has been a top color in general for a long time. It was voted #1 when Crayola polled Americans in 1993. And six different shades of blue made the Top 10 when they did another poll in 2000.

Someone looked at the resale value of different cars after five years. And the two colors that kill your car's value the most are . . . black and blue.
Blue cars depreciate the most, losing an average of 27% of their value in the first five years. Black cars are next at 23%.
It's not clear why we're willing to pay less for those two colors, but maybe this has something to do with it: Kelly Blue Book says blue and black are two of the hardest colors to keep clean.
Dark-colored cars tend to look filthier, because it's easier to see the dirt. It's actually harder to see the dirt on light-colored cars.
The study found the ones that retain their value the best are white cars, losing just 18% of their value in the first five years. (i disagree..my first bought and paid for car was a white car..and I would never buy another)

A new poll found over a third of people who plan to dress up for Halloween still haven't picked out a costume.
Around one in four adults said they're dressing up. And 37% of them still don't know what their costume will be.
Men are a little more likely to wait until the last minute. 40% of guys haven't picked out a costume, compared to 33% of women.

Starbucks' CEO recently shared the ways they're integrating artificial intelligence into their business . . . and the most intriguing thing is an "A.I. barista" that could predict a customer's order.
It sounds like it's more about the Starbucks app being able to predict what you want, and letting you just talk to your device, and say, "Hey I need my Starbucks order, I'll be there in 10 minutes."
Which doesn't seem that far off from just ordering ahead in the app.
Only if you get the same thing every day.

According to a new survey, 61% of Americans say the grilled cheese is their favorite sandwich. But get this: A whopping 75% of people don't feel confident that they're an expert at making grilled cheese.
Here are some stats about our grilled cheese preferences . . .
71% of people say buttering the bread delivers the best crisp on the outside . . . 12% swear by mayo. 68% say the perfect grilled cheese includes more than one cheese . . . although cheddar seems like a must. 43% prefer white bread, but others like sourdough, multigrain, and brioche.

After the Baltimore Ravens fell to 1 and 3, Coach John Harbaugh removed the ping pong tables, basketball hoop, cornhole boards, and video game consoles from the locker room. And now they're 1 and 5.
So...maybe that isn't the problem...

Barbie just released a second Stevie Nicks doll, this time inspired by the cover of her solo debut album, "Bella Donna". She wears a flowy white dress and tall white boots, and comes with a microphone and a black top hat.
Unfortunately, the doll was only available for Barbie Club 59 members, and sold out right away at $60 a pop. (or on eBay for a million dollars)

Today’s Useless Fact of the Day - If you've ever talked about having a "buttload" of something, be careful, because a "butt" is a real unit of measurement. It amounts to about 108 imperial gallons, or about 130 American gallons.
It's not common now, but it was once used for casks of liquids, like wine and whiskey. When you'd fill the barrel up, you'd have a "buttload" of wine . . . though you'd probably just call it "a full butt."
