Today is National Name Your Car Day! According to a recent poll, over 40% of drivers give their car a nickname, and it says a lot about your personality.

Some people go with classic names based on color—like The Silver Bullet or Ruby. (mine is Hyperion because it's hyper blue)

Today in 1950, Charles M. Schulz introduced the world to Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the gang when the first Peanuts comic strip was published in seven American newspapers.

There were 17,897 Peanuts strips published over nearly 50 years.

Schulz never actually wanted to name his strip Peanuts; he originally titled it Li'l Folks, but United Feature Syndicate changed it at the last minute to avoid confusion with another comic strip running at the time—a title Schulz reportedly disliked for the rest of his life.

Today is World Smile Day officially created in 1999 by Harvey Ball, the commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts, who originally invented the iconic yellow smiley face back in 1963, wanting a day dedicated to simple acts of human kindness.

Construction workers in Belgium working on a mundane sewer line upgrade under an old building hit an unexpected jackpot. While clearing out part of an ancient cellar wall, the crew stumbled upon a forgotten historic stash of gold coins and bullion valued at over $10 million.

I've been trying to find out how to open the hidden opening under my front hall stairs for years. The house inspector said there was a lot of dead space under there, and that's where people hid stuff!!

A thief in India swallowed a gold necklace valued at almost $1,000. He was fed bananas and special liquids to help it out of his body.

(who wants to wear that necklace now??? Don't jewelers have to disclose if things have gone through a digestive tract?

A 28-year-old woman in Bunnell, Florida, learned a tough lesson about fleeing the law after she bolted from sheriff's deputies and sprinted straight into a dense, swampy wooded area. After getting hopelessly lost, trapped, and panicked in the brush, she ended up calling emergency services herself, requiring the very police officers she was running from to track her down and pull her out.
