Monday 1/20/25

Celebrate:

Blue Monday - said to be the "most depressing day of the year." Maybe because it's cold, the winter is setting in, it's still dark, but it's more marketing. It is supposed to be the day when people are at their lowest and are thus most likely to try to make themselves feel better by booking a vacation, often to a place warm and sunny, giving them something to work towards and look forward to.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - He was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law and civil society. The movement led to several groundbreaking legislative reforms in the United States.

National Day of Service came about in 1996 as a day of citizen action volunteer service in honor of King.

Let's hope that something else happening today doesn't forget the goal of what Martin Luther King Jr was trying to achieve. But I fear it's lost on certain people.

TikTok disappeared Saturday night but came back Sunday on the hope that President-elect Donald Trump announced he would issue an executive order on Monday to restore the platform.

Worth noting ... this ban was passed by Congress last year -- and, it has very specific conditions for extending the pause on the ban. It's not clear at this point if an executive order is sufficient to extend the period.
