Anita Pointer, one of the founding members of the R&B group The Pointer Sisters, passed away December 31st in Los Angeles. She was 74.
Their big breakthrough song was "Fire" and Anita recalled, “I told Richard Perry that there was such a big voice on this song that maybe he wanted Ruthie to sing lead as she had the big voice, but he said, ‘No. I want you to sing it.’ So I did and it became our first gold single and I was just so thrilled.”
Here she is leading their hit "Fire"

This might save you a little money. But is it worth feeling like a weirdo every time you drive?
People online are talking about a hack to save money on gas. Just drive around with an open bowl of WATER in your car.
The idea is it makes you slow down and not accelerate too fast. Staying under the speed limit is more fuel efficient. And flooring it when the light turns green can lower your gas mileage by up to 40%, according to the E.P.A.
If you want to try it, just put a bowl of water on your passenger's seat, and do your best not to spill it.
One expert says small cereal bowls work great. But don't fill it the whole way. Leave an inch or two at the top.

A group of burglars were caught off guard — and on camera — in Alhambra, when they accidentally broke into a diaper cleaning business instead of the medical marijuana dispensary next door.
Security footage shows a car speeding into a security gate, knocking it off its hinges as a group of people storm through.
Instead of entering the dispensary as likely intended, they broke into Luludew Diaper Service, which cleans and delivers cloth diapers to families utilizing their services.
Barajas said that the thieves initially left with a couple of bags, but dumped them outside once they saw the contents.

Organizers of a kayak and canoe parade in New Jersey this past August received word from Guinness World Records that they officially broke a record with 1,105 participants.
Sandra Rinderer, who organized the Paddle For the Bay event in the Toms River, said she had hoped for 500 participants, and was stunned when 1,105 people from as far away as Ohio and California brought their kayaks and canoes to participate in the event.
The previous record was a paltry 329.
