Telephone Tuesday

The Tuesday after Labor Day is supposedly the day businesses get the most phone calls all year.  It's partly because everyone's open again after the long weekend, and it's when people start planning for the holidays.

Customer service has to answer your call, they don't have a choice.  But a poll we just saw last week found WE don't always pick up anymore.

Only one in five people still answer calls from unknown numbers no matter what.  54% never do.

Here's one more leftover stat from that poll:  The top reasons we don't answer those calls include it could be a scammer . . . it's probably a telemarketer . . . whoever it is, it'll be a waste of time . . . and we're just too busy to pick up.

Joey Chestnut did more than take down longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi in their hot dog-eating showdown on Monday.

The American star also shattered his own world record during the “Unfinished Beef" Netflix contest. Chestnut devoured 83 hot dogs and buns, breaking his previous world record of 76 hot dogs in the 10-minute competition.

“I’ve been trying to hit 80 hot dogs for years, and without Kobayashi, I was never able to do it,’’ Chestnut said after the contest. “He drives me. We weren’t always nice to each other, but I love the way we push each other to be our best.’’

Kobayashi ate 66 hot dogs during the Netflix event, breaking his personal best of 64 ½.

Things to look forward to in September

In sports:  The NFL season kicks off Thursday with the Chiefs hosting the Ravens then the next day the Packers play the Eagles in Brazil. College football is just getting started, too.

The Paralympic Games in Paris are going on until the 8th, and tennis fans have the U.S. Open through September 9th.

In theaters:  The "Beetlejuice" sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" hits theaters on Wednesday.  The animated movie "Transformers One" is out September 20th. "The Wild Robot" will be released September 27th.  And Francis Ford Coppola's epic sci fi drama "Megalopolis" is also out that day.

A TON of TV shows are back, including "Dancing with the Stars" . . . "The Voice" . . . "America's Got Talent" . . . "Grey's Anatomy" . . . and Season Two of the "Frasier" reboot on Paramount+.

There's also the premiere of "The Golden Bachelorette" on ABC . . . and the premiere of the "Batman" spinoff series "The Penguin" on HBO.

The first day of fall will be on Sunday, September 22nd. If you want to get specific, the Autumn Equinox occurs at 8:43 A.M. Eastern that day.

"Gatorwine" is trending on social media.  Yes, wine plus Gatorade.

The recipe is equal parts light blue Glacier Freeze Gatorade, and any cheap red wine that's less than $12 a bottle.

It blew up after a popular YouTube series called Binging with Babish did a taste test. The guy didn't love it, but said it was better than cheap wine on its own.

They used Glacier Freeze Gatorade like the recipe said, plus a cheap bottle of Barefoot pinot noir.--

For most of us, it's a four-day work week.

A recent poll asked people if they were to switch to a FOUR-day work week . . . which extra day would they like to have off?  And not surprisingly, most people wanted a three-day weekend.

47% of people said they'd like to have Friday off . . . and 27% want Monday off.

21% would pick Wednesdays to give themselves a break in the middle, which is actually kind of smart. And 2% would pick Thursdays.

The LEAST popular option was Tuesdays, which less than 1% of people chose.  That creates a MAJOR problem . . . essentially making TWO "Mondays."

Someone in the poll asked why ANYONE would want Tuesdays off . . . and someone else had a perfect response:  Tacos.
