A study looked into why people run from bears. The short answer is - because they're BEARS. But the study was more about the complex process that goes on within our brain when it happens.
It reveals the sophisticated ways our brains encode emotional information to guide behavior.
If you want to know the specifics, read this, and run from the bear.

We now know exactly how much faster time passes on the Moon . . . about 58 microseconds faster per day. If you lived up there for 100 years, you'd be about two seconds older than on Earth.

Scientists have discovered thousands of exoplanets in other solar systems and some of them are especially weird compared to our stellar neighborhood. For example, HD 189733 b, a planet 65 light years from Earth in the constellation Vulpecula, is larger than Jupiter, the largest planet in Earth's solar system. But it also rains molten glass at extremely hot temperatures, with the scorching shards flying sideways due to winds that reach speeds of up to 5,000 mph.
Which still sounds better than attending that family picnic this weekend.
By the way..what's the best food to bring on a picnic??

Here are the best foods to bring to every type of outing this summer. . .
1. The pool or beach. Fresh cut fruit is perfect for pool or beach days because it tastes nice and cold, and helps replenish lost sugars and hydration.
2. An MLB ballpark. A lot of people don't know that you can bring food into several MLB stadiums. Salty snacks like nuts and Chex Mix, or small premade sandwiches, are the way to go here.
3. An outdoor concert. Go for low-maintenance foods like a hoagie or wrap. And check for restrictions on booze, but opt for canned wine instead of big glass bottles.
4. A picnic. Everybody thinks to pack their own basket, but takeout food like sandwiches or a bucket of fried chicken is really underrated for a summer picnic.

There's now a reality series to find the next Hallmark holiday movie star. It's called "Finding Mr. Christmas", and it'll premiere sometime this fall on Hallmark's streaming service.
10 men will compete in a series of challenges to test their "acting skills" and Christmas spirit. Jonathan Bennett is the host. He's been in Hallmark movies, but you'd probably know him as Aaron Samuels from "Mean Girls".
The winner will earn the title of "Mr. Christmas" and will film his movie THIS summer. The movie will premiere later this year on the Hallmark Channel during the "Countdown to Christmas".

There was an open house last Sunday for a home for sale near Stafford, Virginia, about 40 miles south of D.C. One of the people who toured the home was 39-year-old Napoleon Boayke. (bo-ah-chay)
He apparently talked to the seller about how much he liked the place, and thought it would be great for him and his four kids. And it looks like he was serious . . . because he just MOVED IN two days later.
He didn't make an offer or anything. He just showed up with his kids, got inside, and refused to leave.
Police got there and ordered him to come out. But he just stared at them through a window, so they went inside and arrested him.
It turned out he was on probation and had warrants out in two neighboring counties. He's facing a long list of charges, including entering a property with intent to cause damage.
Child Protective Services took the kids in. Officials said they'd be releasing them to a responsible family member.

A new poll asked people about 20 different insects, and asked whether their reaction to them was: Positive . . . negative . . . or neutral.
In the end, butterflies came out on top. 80% of people had a positive view of them, 15% were neutral, and only 4% had a negative view.
Fireflies were second . . . followed by ladybugs, honey bees, dragonflies, caterpillars, bumblebees, praying mantises, earthworms, and grasshoppers.
SHOCKINGLY, mosquitoes are NOT popular. They came in last, with 86% of people saying they had a negative view of them. 8% said were neutral, and 5% of hardcore nature lovers said they LIKE mosquitoes.
Cockroaches were the second-most hated . . . followed by wasps, ants, cicadas, spiders, spotted lanternflies, June bugs, moths, and roly-polys.
