6/15/21 - The Ides of June

Tuesday - 6/15/21 The Ides of June (ides means middle)

Celebrate National Smile Power, Photography, and Megalodon Day. National Megalodon Day teaches us about the most massive shark that ever lived!

The Megalodon swam the Earth’s oceans for 20 million years during the Cenozoic Era. Their mouths spanned 8 to 11 feet wide and were filled with rows of sharp teeth. With a bite force of over 40,000 pounds per square inch, a maximum weight of over 60 tons, and serrated teeth measuring near 7 inches, their prey did not stand a chance.

I've heard of crappy reality shows, but this takes the (toilet) paper!!!!!

It looks like Ultimate Slip 'N Slide is slip slidin' away into temporary limbo. On Friday, The Wrap reported that production on the upcoming NBCUniversal reality series had been indefinitely suspended following an on-set outbreak of giardia — a microscopic parasite that can cause diarrheal disease if swallowed.

"The health and safety of everyone on our set is our number one priority, so out of an abundance of caution we have made the decision to stop production of Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide at the current location," a spokesperson said.

Ultimate Slip 'N Slide features teams of contestants competing in a variety of challenges in a water park filled with rides based on the backyard game from Wham-O. According to an NBC press release, the series "takes the spirit of the classic backyard slide" and funnels it into games like "Human Pong, Body Bowling, Cornhole, Bocce Fall," culminating in the Big Slipper, described as "a colossal multi-part slide meant for only the bravest and boldest players."

Production on the series originally paused on June 2, when the studio was made aware that a crew member had tested positive for giardia. (According to The Wrap, as many as 40 crew members were ultimately affected by the parasite, leaving people "collapsing" on set due to "awful explosive diarrhea" and "being forced to run into port-o-potties.")

(make your own poop jokes, I'm not even going to squeeze one out)

The Statue of Liberty is getting a little sister — and the age gap is huge. 137 years after sending the original, France is shipping another Lady Liberty to the US as a gift of friendship. Standing at 9 feet and weighing nearly 1,000 pounds, the replica is one-sixteenth the size of the original.

Both statues will stand facing one another from July 1-5, and then the smaller one will be taken to Washington, D.C., to be installed at the French ambassador's residence. The "little sister" will be unveiled there beginning July 14, Bastille Day, and remain there for 10 years.
