National Black Cow Day - a root beer float (brown cows with Chocolate Ice Cream) Frank J. Wisner, owner Cripple Creek Brewing in Colorado, made the first black cow on August 19, 1893, after observing the snow caps of Cow Mountain the night before, and thinking they looked like ice cream scoops on top of soda.

Sly Stone, the Funk-Rock Pioneer who led the Family Stone has died at 82.
According to his family, he “recently completed the screenplay for his life story, a project we are eager to share with the world in due course.”
As songwriter, producer, arranger, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and showman supreme, 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Stone led his group Sly and the Family Stone to the top of the charts with a series of energetic, oft-experimental singles and albums, which fused forward-looking, bottom-heavy soul with rock power.
Beginning with the breakout 1968 Epic Records single “Dance to the Music” and peaking with the 1969 album “Stand!,” which contained four chart singles (including the No. 1 pop and R&B hit “Everyday People”), Stone successfully built an enthusiastic, diverse fanbase of black and white listeners.

Despite being one of the most recognizable people on Earth, Dolly Parton is still one of us.
And she proved it once again, by admitting to the one thing she eats every day: Potatoes. She doesn't need anything glamorous, she said she just looks for, quote, "good, hearty food."
Here's what she said on the "Today" show recently: "I have to have something with potatoes. I mean, I'm just one of those people that I have to either have a baked potato, some mashed potatoes, some french fries, or something to do with potatoes."

In a new survey, 38% of Americans admit they're, quote, "bad at mornings."
The average person gets out of bed "later than they planned" eight times per month. But for 10% of people, it's more like 20 times per month.
Of course, sleeping in TOO LATE can make mornings even harder. 41% of people say a late start means they might have to skip breakfast . . . 16% will skip showering . . . and 11% will save time by not brushing their teeth.
For the people in the survey, 43% say they use an alarm to wake up in the morning . . . with the average time of the first alarm being 6:33 A.M.

There's apparently a new trend of baby showers for the grandparents, and this is in addition to all the other showers for the mom and dad.
Some people say "grandma showers" or "grandbaby showers" are a "heartwarming way to honor a new chapter in life." But others say it's inappropriate, and even a little narcissistic.
People against them say that a grandma shower can shift the focus away from the actual parents.
Wait a minute....more gifts???? No Way!

A new poll asked people what foods they think are best with sauce, and not surprisingly, French fries are #1. 73% of people say they're best dipped in sauces, like ketchup, hot sauce, ranch, barbecue sauce, mustard, or even mayo.
Chicken nuggets are second, followed by hot dogs . . . chicken wings . . . cheeseburgers . . . tacos . . . nachos . . . deli sandwiches . . . pizza . . . and vegetables.
The poll also listed people's "weird" sauce combinations, and they include:
French fries with tartar sauce
Scrambled eggs and barbecue sauce
Pickles with Buffalo sauce
Macaroni with Worcestershire sauce
Honey mustard with pita bread
Ramen noodles with ranch dressing.
The average person has EIGHT different kinds of sauce in their fridge.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Nebraska is the only "TRIPLE-landlocked" state . . . which means it doesn't touch an ocean, the states bordering it don't touch an ocean, and the states bordering them don't touch an ocean.
