Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to knock The Super Mario Bros. Movie from its perch at the top of the box office this weekend, after a four-week run for the video game plumber.

The third and final installment of the Guardians franchise is expected to rake in $120 million, which would make it the second-most successful opening weekend for all three films in the series. The 2017 sequel was able to ring up $146 million for its premiere.

We learn about Rocket Racoon's past.

Somehow a Hallmark movie made it to the big screen...ok it's not Hallmark, but your sappy love story is Love Again. It even stars Celine Dion!!!!!

Today is Cinco De Mio..again, which commemorates the anniversary of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It's pretty much an American creation in California since 1863.

Elmira will see its first-ever Cinco De Mayo celebration on Friday, hosted by Los Panchos Restaurant on West Water Street in Elmira. The event will run from 5PM - 9PM on May 5th, and feature drink specials, a DJ, craft vendors, face painting and more.

The growing popularity of crystals, like astrology, is a trend most associated with younger women. But in the earlier days of the pandemic, a younger set also began to take a shine to the sparkly rocks.

It seems to be fueled by celebrity endorsements and a New Age resurgence in major cities and the fashion and beauty industries. Crystals have been a “mounting trend” on Etsy over the last decade.

Read more about it here.

Jamie Foxx is still in the hospital, more than three weeks after suffering what has still only been described as a "medical complication."

But yesterday, either he or someone on his team posted a message on Instagram, saying, quote, "Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed."

Still, friends of the family are telling the media that he still needs all the prayers and well wishes his fans can give.

Also, Jamie and his daughter Corrinne will not appear on Season 6 of "Beat Shazam". Nick Cannon will take over as host, and Kelly Osbourne is replacing Corrinne as the show's DJ.

You know how thieves might threaten a clerk . . . demanding money "OR ELSE!" . . . and the "or else!" always seems scary? Well, in this case, the "or else" was just "I'll go back to shopping in the store."

On Monday, a woman in Texas named Brandy Ackerman walked up to a grocery store clerk and pulled a knife out of her jacket. She demanded that the clerk open the cash register . . . but the clerk refused.

So Brandy put the knife back in her jacket and said, "Oh I was just kidding anyway." Then, she went back to shopping. She later paid for her items, and left.

Brandy was gone when the cops showed up, but they later caught her and charged her with aggravated robbery. She's being held in jail on $150,000 bond.

A 61-year-old woman in New Jersey accidentally ran herself over with her own car Monday night. Then on top of it, cops gave her a ticket.

It happened in Hackettstown, New Jersey, about 40 miles west of Newark. She was getting out of her 2014 Lincoln . . . didn't put it in park . . . and it ran over the "left side of her body."

Paramedics got her to a hospital, and luckily she survived. They said her injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

After the car ran her over, it kept going and crashed into another car. But that's not what she got the ticket for.

It turned out her registration was expired. So cops cited her for driving an unregistered vehicle.

National Assessment of Educational Progress test scores released Wednesday showed that eighth graders' knowledge of civics declined last year for the first time since the current testing framework was started in 1998. Scores plunged most sharply in history on the so-called Nation's Report Card, in a stark reminder of the effects the pandemic had on education. About 40 percent of eighth graders had "below basic" scores in U.S. history last year, up from 34 percent in 2018 and 29 percent in 2014. The backsliding during the years after COVID-19 hit the United States accelerated a trend of worsening test scores that started a decade earlier. Only 13 percent of the students scored at the proficient level in U.S. history, down from 18 percent in 2014.
