Today has been declared a National Day of Mourning in the United States.
James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, the only President born in Georgia and the country’s longest living President at age 100, will be laid to rest today in his hometown of Plains, beside his wife Rosalynn.
The tradition, which began with a one-day government shutdown following Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865, is one of many ways the United States honors its late presidents. Biden's statement also declared all American flags displayed at public and military sites globally be flown at half-staff for 30 days following Carter's death.
While not a Federal holiday, Mail and many Federal offices will be closed today.
The Stock Market will be closed in respect for former President Carter.

The 2025 cookie lineup will feature Girl Scout S'mores and Toast-Yays, for the last time!!!
This is the first time the Girl Scouts have announced that a flavor is being discontinued ahead of time to give people one last chance. The S'mores one was introduced in 2017, and Toast-Yays have been around since 2021.
All the other classics will be back: Thin Mints . . . Samoas (a.k.a. Caramel deLites) . . . Trefoils . . . Peanut Butter Patties (or Tagalongs) . . . Peanut Butter Sandwich (or Do-si-dos) . . . Adventurefuls . . . Caramel Chocolate Chip . . . Lemonades . . . Lemon-Ups . . . and Toffee-tastic.
The 2025 Girl Scout Cookie season will run from now through April . . . and if you're looking to make an order, but don't know any Girl Scouts, you can find info on your local troops at GirlScouts.org.

TikTok's new obsession is glitter pickles or "glickles" for short. A video on how to make them went viral last month, but a lot of people missed it over the holidays. The hashtag "pretty pickles" is also trending.
They're easy to make: Just open a jar of pickles . . . dump a ton of EDIBLE glitter in there, and enjoy the fanciest pickle you've ever seen.
A bunch of brands have jumped on the trend or posted comments. Jimmy John's did a video and got called out for using NON-edible glitter.
Don't do that, since normal glitter can be toxic. Even if it says non-toxic, you're basically eating a full spoonful of microplastics.

A guy in Maryland was driving last month when someone cut him off in traffic. But no hard feelings, because he remembered their license plate number . . . used the digits on 10 different lottery tickets . . . and they all hit for $50,000. So the jerk who cut him off helped him win half-a-million bucks.

In case you missed it: The Hershey Bears hockey team did their annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday, and broke their own record again. Fans show up with stuffed animals to toss on the ice after the home team scores its first goal.
The total last year was a new high of around 75,000 stuffed animals. But they crushed it on Sunday with a grand total of 102,343. They'll be donated to over 35 different charities.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The most common street name in the U.S. is . . . Second Street. The theory is that a town will name its first street either First Street OR Main Street, but they pretty much always go with Second Street after that.
