We understand that it's the mechanics of the sun and moon that cause eclipses. But in the past, there were many legends and lore surrounding these events. The Old Farmers Almanac has collected many of them, including,
Myths often involved a beast trying to destroy the Sun with the fate of Earth hanging in the balance—or, a Sun-god becoming angry, sad, or sick.
In Armenia, a dragon swallowed the Sun and Moon.
Some North American Indian tribes believed that an eclipse was simply nature’s way of “checking in” with the sky, perhaps a sort of cleaning house. The Sun and the Moon temporarily leave their places in the sky to see if things are going all right on our planet Earth.

A porch pirate was caught stealing a package from a home in Sacramento last week . . . dressed as a TRASH BAG. A MOVING trash bag.
The homeowner, Omar Munoz, shared doorbell security footage of the thief waddling up to his porch underneath a TIED garbage bag. The person under the bag shuffles over to the package, grabs it, and then scoots away.
Omar said he was angry at first . . . then he thought maybe it was a prank . . . now, he just finds it FUNNY. He says he's not filing a police report, because "the police have more important things to do," and it isn't worth the hassle.
He said the package was not valuable . . . it just contained a couple of phone chargers from Temu that cost 10 bucks. He just re-ordered them, and has this to say to the thief: Quote, "That was a good one."

A comic book just sold for $6 million, which is the all-time record. Not surprisingly, it was a copy of "Action Comics" #1 from 1938, featuring the first appearance of Superman.
Experts think there are only about 100 of these still kicking around, out of the 200,000 that were printed back in the day.
The previous record was also held by Superman. A copy of 1939's "Superman" #1 sold for $5.3 million in 2022.
In third place is a copy of "Amazing Fantasy" #15, from 1962. That's where Spider-Man made his debut. It sold for $3.6 million in 2021.

When Shaquille O'Neal won a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the first thing he did was . . . Throw it out his car window.
Before the gold medal game, USA Basketball coach Lenny Wilkens told Shaq that David Robinson was going to get more playing time, because it was probably going to be his last game.
Shaq was cool with that . . . until he only ended up playing the last TWO MINUTES. He was NOT cool with that.
He says, quote, "I was so pissed off, after the ceremony, I drove home in my uniform, and I threw the [Gosh-darn] medal out the window on I-75."
He never went back for it, and as far as he knows it's never been found. And no, he doesn't regret it.
FYI, Shaq had just finished his final season in Orlando, so that's where he was driving home to. If you want to try and find that medal, you've got about 430 miles' worth of searching ahead of you.
