Zipper Day - Before the zipper, there was "Automatic Continuous Clothing Closure" (patented by Elias Howe) and the "Clasp Locker." They were essentially a series of tiny, complicated hooks that were expensive, prone to rust, and constantly popped open at the worst moments.

The Breakthrough (1913): Swedish-American engineer Gideon Sundback finally solved the puzzle. He increased the number of teeth and created a slider that wedged them together at a specific angle. He called it the "Separable Fastener."

1923 The B.F. Goodrich Company put Sundback’s fastener on their new rubber boots. An executive reportedly said, "Zip 'er up!" because of the sound it made. They trademarked the name "Zipper" for the boots, but the word was so perfect it became the name for the device itself.

Roger Sweet -- the toy designer who created the He-Man character in the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" 1980s animated kids' show -- has died at age 91.

Roger worked for Mattel in the '70s and '80s and is widely credited with developing He-Man after pitching multiple muscular action figure concepts that eventually evolved into the sword-wielding hero.

Roger leaves behind a legacy that'll live on every time someone says ... "I have the power!"

Did you know the woman who started Mother’s Day spent the rest of her life trying to abolish it? Anna Jarvis founded the holiday in 1908, but by 1914, she was so disgusted by the commercialization (florists and card companies) that she organized boycotts and was even arrested for "disturbing the peace" at a Mother's Day carnation convention.

Reddit asked Moms what they actually want for Mother's Day.

There is an overwhelming amount of extra sleep, clean houses and alone time desired.

Someone else cooking and doing the dishes and cleaning the floor after the meal. Coffee in bed uninterrupted is nice too.

If my husband would just take the kids somewhere for 24hours I’d be in heaven. I need 24hours where no one touches me, asks me to do something for them, or makes a mess I need to clean.

I want to have a day where I make 0 decisions. I want to wake up when my body tells me to, not a kid or an alarm clock.

I want a long bath without interruption and a nap

I want my car detailed by a professional. I ask for it every year and have yet to get it. No more goldfish crackers in between the seats… It would be a dream come true.

Pizza, cheese sticks, and a massage

Feed me carbs and cheese and don't ask me to make any decisions all day.

A woman has been jailed after a routine eviction spiraled into a chaotic confrontation when a swarm of bees was unleashed on law enforcement, leaving multiple people injured.

Authorities say the incident unfolded during an effort to serve eviction papers at a $1.9 million home in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, when a beekeeper arrived with a truckload of hives and began opening them in the driveway.

Deputies on the scene quickly realized what was happening. “Hey, hey, hey, she has a truck full of bees,” one deputy said, according to video, prompting another to respond: “What?”

The beekeeper, Rebecca Woods, who was not a resident of the home, later said in a court affidavit that she intended to let the bees forage on the “lovely flowering landscape” while protesting the eviction in 2022.

Prosecutors said the bees were effectively used as a weapon. A jury agreed, convicting the woman of multiple misdemeanor counts, including assault and reckless conduct, while acquitting her of more serious felony charges.

Her lawyer said she had been trying to stop the eviction of a friend undergoing cancer treatment, describing her actions as driven by concern over “the humiliation and devastation of going through an eviction.”

The Guinness World Record for the world's longest tiramisu has been broken in London after chefs assembled a 440.6-metre portion of the coffee and sponge dessert. A hundred Italian chefs gathered at Chelsea town hall at the weekend to whip up the tiramisu, which dwarfed the previous record set in Milan, at 273.5 metres.

As per Guinness World Record rules, the tiramisu was made live on site and assembled over five hours to form a single cake. Portions will be sold to raise money for charity/

You don’t have to be Martha Stewart to host a successful dinner party. Sure, it helps to know your way around the kitchen—but a great dinner party isn’t just about good recipes. It’s about creating a pleasant sensory experience for your guests. And with a few science-backed strategies, you can do exactly that.

The sweet spot is somewhere between five and eight guests.

Heavy cutlery enhances the enjoyment of food.

Even plate color affects how people perceive food. Different colors may be appropriate for different foods, but “the safest bet is a white plate,” Herz says. For example, the same strawberry mousse was rated sweeter and more enjoyable when served on a white plate versus a black one.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Today is National Shrimp Scampi Day. "Scampi" is actually the Italian word for a specific type of tiny lobster (langoustine). When Italian immigrants came to the U.S., they swapped the rare langoustine for shrimp but kept the name.
