Things From the 2000s That Are Now Collectible—and Valuable

Of course, many are worth a lot more if they are unopened in their original packaging (who does that?)

Tour Merch - all those band t-shirts.

iPhones/iPods - In 2023, a factory-sealed first-generation Apple iPhone sold at auction for a staggering $190,372. Your original 2007 iPhone might not be factory sealed, of course, but with interest in early smartphones of the 2000s seeming to grow, it may well be worth holding on to.

Games Consoles

First Editions of Books

Pokémon Cards

Tamagotchi - Even a pre-owned Tamagotchi can be worth several hundred dollars today

LEGO Sets

CDs/DVDs/VHS - Physical media is booming once again, with interest in CDs, vinyl LPs, Blu-rays, and DVDs all leading the way, as film and music fans increasingly turn away from streaming services.

Japan announces new name for days over 100 degrees(40C) after hottest summer ever.

‘Kokushobi’ (coke-shi-bou) translates as cruelly hot, brutally hot or severely hot.

Temperatures topped 40C on nine days between June and August, with the mercury hitting 41.8C in the city of Isesaki on 5 August - the highest on record nationwide.

Mother's Day is less than three weeks out.

According to fresh 2026 research from OpenTable, the "Breakfast in Bed" era might be over.

Dining Out > Staying In: 42% of moms say they would rather go out to eat than receive breakfast in bed.

The "Gen Z" Effect: 62% of Gen Z-ers plan to dine out for Mother’s Day, which is double the rate of Gen X.

The 5:00 PM Dinner: Early bird specials are trending—5:00 PM reservations saw a 14% increase last year as families try to beat the rush.

The Gift of "Clutter-Free": Sentimentality is winning over "stuff." Top-ranked physical gifts include photo books and family portraits, while many moms are requesting "experiences" like pottery classes or a simple uninterrupted hike.

A three-year-old boy who went missing in Louisville was found after a mysterious, collarless collie led police directly to where the child was locked inside an SUV. According to neighbors, the dog has a home but wanders the neighborhood on warm days. A familiar face in the community, he is now a hero no one will forget, who  the community is now calling the pup "Louisville's Lassie."

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The 'Mission: Impossible' theme song's opening notes were inspired by Morse code

The espionage franchise is all about secret codes, including one embedded in its popular theme song. The opening notes are based on Morse code, which translates to "M" and "I."

(M --  I ..)

Rumor has it that Lalo Schifrin wrote the main theme in 90 seconds and the whole song in three minutes.
