National Sourdough Bread Day - Today honors the oldest form of leavened bread. Sourdough dates back to ancient Egypt (around 1500 BC). It requires a "starter" of fermented flour and water, and some bakeries in San Francisco have been keeping the exact same starter alive and feeding it daily for over 150 years.

NASA is set to launch the Artemis II mission today, April 1st, sending four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the Moon—the first crewed lunar mission since Apollo 17 in 1972 . The 98-meter rocket is scheduled to lift off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 6:24 p.m. ET, carrying three NASA astronauts—Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, and Victor Glover—along with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

CNN will provide special coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET, with anchor Boris Sanchez live from the Kennedy Space Center .

Livestreams will be available throughout the day on Amazon Prime, NASA's YouTube channel and NASA+, the agency's free streaming service.

Future coverage on NASA+ will also be available during significant mission milestones, including lunar flybys and their return to and landing back at Earth. There is a NASA app on my Roku.

Today is April Fools Day - While the exact origins are debated, historians believe it dates back to 1582 when France switched to the Gregorian calendar, moving the new year from April 1 to January 1. Those who were slow to get the news were mocked as "April fools."

Don’t believe anything! Facebook and Social Media will be awash with fake new products. Here is one fun prank, and two that were absolutely real but people thought they were fake.

The BBC aired a three-minute segment showing a family in Switzerland harvesting spaghetti from "spaghetti trees" after a mild winter.

The Result: Thousands of viewers called in asking how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. The BBC’s official response? "Place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best."

Not a joke.

On this day in 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple Computer. Many people thought the announcement was an April Fools' joke because the company name was so "un-corporate" for the time.

The Gmail Launch (2004): When Google announced Gmail on April 1, 2004, offering a "staggering" 1GB of free storage (about 500 times what Hotmail offered), the tech world was convinced it was a fake. It turned out to be one of the most successful "real" launches in history.

A new YouGov poll of over 2,200 Americans reveals that cleaning the bathroom is the most disliked household chore in the United States. More than half of Americans (52%) say they hate or dislike cleaning bathrooms—far more than any other chore surveyed. Dusting came in a distant second, with 41% expressing dislike.

The poll also found that Americans actually enjoy some chores: 59% love or like preparing meals, 57% enjoy grocery shopping, and nearly half (47%) say they like tidying up.

A new YouGov survey of Americans in relationships reveals what really sparks arguments between partners. The number one cause? Tone of voice or attitude—36% of couples say they argue about this. Communication styles (29%) and money (26%) round out the top three. Household chores come in at 21%, tying with life decisions.

Women are significantly more likely than men to argue about tone of voice (41% vs. 29%), household chores (27% vs. 15%), and quality time together (23% vs. 11%). Among unmarried couples living together, arguments spike: 43% argue about emotional needs and 40% about money.

News of the unexplained phenomena.

A commercial pilot landing at Philadelphia International Airport reported a baffling encounter with a "flying saucer" this week. According to air traffic control transcripts, the pilot was genuinely confused, stating the object didn't look like a drone or a balloon as it zipped over the aircraft. It wasn't the only sighting; video emerged from Argentina of a mysterious glowing orb over a city, and a "Sasquatch" was reported crossing a highway in South Carolina just days ago.

Also,

The Loch Ness Monster has officially made its first appearance of the year. A visitor to the loch captured footage of a "fast-moving anomaly" in the water that researchers are calling the first credible sighting of 2026. It is spring, and everyone wants to get out!

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Today marks the official opening day of trout season in New York State.

New York features over 7,000 miles of "Public Fishing Rights" on various streams. Local spots near Elmira and Corning, like the Catharine Creek and the Chemung River, typically see high activity starting today.

Sorry, Pennsylvania, you have to wait till April 13th.
