National Personal Chef Day

National Pistachio Day

National Set a Good Example Day

Robert John, a singer-songwriter whose inimitable voice lent itself to a number of Billboard Hot 100 hits including Grammy nominated #1 “Sad Eyes” and an enduring version of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” which made #3, died on Monday. He was 79 years old.

Another great funk/soul singer has passed. Gwen McCrae died at 81.

Affectionately known as the "queen of the rare groove", McCrae had a 1975 soul smash with Rockin' Chair.

Her catalog - which also includes the dancefloor anthem All This Love That I'm Givin', as well as other tracks like 90% of Me Is You, Keep the Fire Burning and Funky Sensation - has been heavily sampled by artists including Lady Gaga, Cassius, Avicii, Madlib, Cypress Hill and Mobb Deep.

If the last name sounds familiar, she was married to George McCrae who had the massive hit "Rock Me Baby."

A man wrongly accused of murder just got released from prison in Hawaii after 30 years behind bars. He's been in there since 1994 and he says the one thing he's found weird so far is "Everybody is looking at their PHONE" all the time.

He'd never seen cell phone zombies, because smartphones weren't a thing yet in 1994.  We didn't even have flip-phones until '96.  All he had was a beeper.

Here's a unique "How'd you meet" story:  A guy in China hit a woman with his car, and now they're married.

She was on her e-bike when he slammed into her in December of 2023.  He broke her collarbone but visited her every day in the hospital, and they fell in love.  They got married this month and also have a baby on the way.

I'm afraid of how he's going to bond with the child.

The hot new TikTok challenge is to drop heavier and heavier things on your foot to see how much it hurts.

Search for "Dropping Things on Your Foot" or #DropChallenge.  You drop each thing on your foot without shoes on . . . writhe around in pain . . . and then rate the pain on a scale from 1 to 10.

One guy went viral after he did multiple rounds of it.  There's one where he does a hammer . . . a space heater . . . a soundbar . . . and the worst one is a cordless drill.

People have done bigger things too, like vacuums and televisions.  But it looks like TikTok has pulled some of these videos down, including the guy with the drill, because it's dangerous.  You could break your foot and end up with long-term issues.

March is . . . National Sauce Month!

To celebrate, Instacart just released some data on America's favorite pasta sauces.

They released lists of the states that order the MOST and LEAST pasta sauce, and Iowa leads the way as the MOST obsessed with pasta sauce.  Wisconsin is second, followed by West Virginia.

California is DEAD LAST.  Idaho and Maine also don't buy much pasta sauce.

They also broke it down by specific cities.  And the places that order the most pasta sauce are:  Kansas City . . . Buffalo . . . Philadelphia . . . Columbus . . . and Virginia Beach.

The cities that order the least are mostly in California:  San Francisco . . . San Jose . . . Los Angeles . . . Oakland . . . and Miami at #5

America's FAVORITE sauce is the LEAST healthy one:  Alfredo.

Overall, marinara is #1, followed by Alfredo . . . tomato basil . . . tomato garlic . . . plain tomato sauce . . . pesto . . . tomato and cheese . . . meat sauce . . . vodka sauce . . . and mushroom sauce.

But Alfredo is #1 in most of the South and Midwest.

Yesterday, we had a list of universally loved foods, and how many people hate them.  Now let's flip the script.  How many of these widely hated foods do you actually like?

1.  Anchovies.  13% love them.

2.  Blue cheese.  27% are big fans.

3.  Black licorice.  16% love it.

4.  Oysters.  35% love them.  65% would never touch one.

5.  Pineapple on pizza.  48% count themselves as fans.  21% are indifferent.  Only 31% said it's gross.
