World Day of Social Justice

At Ershui Junior High School in Taiwan, academic achievement isn't enough to earn your diploma. Before graduation certificates can be signed, students must scale a 15-meter-high rock-climbing wall—no exceptions. The students take six climbing lessons each week in preparation for the test, which has become a rite of passage. It's not every day that rappelling skills become a graduation requirement, but Taiwan is taking "reaching new heights" quite literally.

Myopia is skyrocketing around the world, often blamed on endless screen time—but new research suggests the real culprit may be something more subtle: dim indoor lighting. Children who spend most of their time indoors under artificial light, regardless of screen use, show dramatically higher rates of nearsightedness. The eyes need bright outdoor light to develop properly, and our indoor-centric lifestyles may be robbing them of it. It's not about putting down devices—it's about getting outside.

A major breakthrough could help save the world's bananas from a devastating disease. Scientists have discovered the exact genetic region in a wild banana that provides resistance to Fusarium wilt Subtropical Race 4—a destructive strain threatening the global banana supply.

By identifying this resistance gene, researchers can now breed commercial bananas that can withstand the disease. Without this breakthrough, the bananas we know and love could disappear within a generation.

Some Weird Olympic Stories and Events

The Smaller Rink: It was discovered that the hockey rinks in Milan were built roughly three feet shorter than NHL/Olympic specifications because someone allegedly "forgot how to use a ruler."

Homework Struggles: Canadian figure skater Maddie Schizas went viral for an Instagram story showing her emailing her university professor to ask for a homework extension because she was busy competing in the Olympic team event.

The Cringey Confession: After winning bronze, Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid used his post-race interview to publicly apologize for being unfaithful to his girlfriend.

Fashion editors are OBSESSED with the spring trends hitting runways and stores right now! Zebra print is replacing leopard as the new animal pattern (neutrals but make it interesting),

Lace-trim camisoles are adding elegance to basic jeans, and "Capri blue"—that gorgeous turquoise shade—is THE color of the season. Oh and Polka Dots are back.

Also trending: cropped jackets, pointelle knitwear, and double denim styled two different ways by Gen Z (light wash, low-rise) vs Millennials (indigo, oversized).

Time to refresh your wardrobe!

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - National Muffin Day

The technical difference between a muffin and a cupcake is the mixing method. Muffins use the "muffin method" (mixing wet and dry separately then combining), while cupcakes use the "creaming method" (beating butter and sugar). Also, if you throw it at a wall and it makes a "thud," it's a muffin. If it splashes, it’s a cupcake.

(just eat them..no throwing)
