Friday 2/13/26

This year features not one, not two, but THREE Friday the 13ths (the second is next month as March mimics February and then November), making it an especially unlucky (or lucky, depending on your superstition) year. Astrologers and conspiracy theorists are having a field day with this rare double occurrence these two months!
Some origins
The seating arrangement at the Last Supper is believed to have given rise to a longstanding Christian superstition that having 13 guests at a table was a bad omen. Judas being the 13th guest, and Jesus was crucified on a Friday.
In Norse mythology, the number 13 is considered unlucky due to the story of Loki crashing a banquet in Valhalla as the 13th guest, leading to the death of Balder.
Different cultures have different unlucky days: In Spain and Greece, Tuesday the 13th is considered unlucky, whereas in Italy, Friday the 17th is feared. In Italy, 13 is actually considered a lucky number!

Choosing a bedroom color feels like a personal choice. You might love a bold shade in a store or online, but experts often say there are some rules you should follow when painting a bedroom. This is the room where your body is supposed to slow down, not stay alert. Some colors fight against that goal without you realizing it.
Experts say overstimulating colors can raise heart rate, increase mental activity, and make it harder to fully unwind at night. (isn't it dark though???)
Red is one. It stimulates the nervous system and can increase feelings of urgency or tension. Leave it for the social spaces.
Bright Yellow is the other. It reflects a lot of light and keeps the brain in a more alert state.
The best colors to use are muted terracotta, blush, or warm taupe, creamy off-whites or soft sand tones offer warmth without the intensity of brighter hues.
If you want the bold colors in your bedroom use throw pillows, artwork, or a throw blanket.

Laundry.

Each type of detergent has strengths, weaknesses, and are good for different things.
Liquid detergent - It dissolves easily in any water temperature, making it great for cold-water cycles. It handles greasy stains well, and you can even pre-treat fabric by rubbing a little directly onto trouble spots before washing.
Also don't use too much.
Powder - excellent cleaning power, especially for ground-in dirt and outdoor stains. It’s usually the cheapest option and can be stored for longer because it doesn’t contain water.
Sometimes it's doesn't disolve.
Pods - Really ease of use. But are pricier and again, might not totally disolve.

The Backstreet Boys are shooting their shot! During their Las Vegas Sphere residency show last night, AJ McLean asked the crowd: "What do you guys think? Backstreet Boys…2027…Super Bowl halftime?" The crowd went WILD. The group starred in a T-Mobile commercial this year, and their song "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" soundtracked another memorable ad. The 2027 Super Bowl is in LA—let's make it happen!

During a high school basketball game in Frederick, Oklahoma, a referee made the unprecedented move of ejecting the entire home team's fan section. After one fan stood up to yell at an official over a foul call in the fourth quarter, the ref conferred with the school administrator and announced: "The officials ask that the whole side clear." Play didn't resume until every single fan had left the gym, with some peeking through doors from outside.

A University of Alaska Fairbanks student took his opposition to AI art to an extreme level by literally eating it. Graham Granger, 19, was caught ripping 57 AI-generated photos off the walls of a fellow student's ChatGPT-based exhibit and chewing them up in protest of the school's AI policy. He said he's "surprisingly fine" after the paper feast, noting he's "eaten paper on dares before" and has "learned a method." He's now facing criminal mischief charges and will appear in court in March.

Scientists have identified a compound called Mic-628 that can reliably shift your body's internal clock forward—something that's been notoriously difficult to achieve. By targeting key clock-control mechanisms, the drug offers hope for travelers, shift workers, and anyone struggling with circadian rhythm disruptions. Imagine recovering from international flights in days instead of a week.
Will it be available when we change the clocks next month??? Asking for a friend!
