30 Years Ago - 1992 Prince released his fourteenth album called Love Symbol.
The official title of the album is an unpronounceable symbol depicted on its cover art, which Prince copyrighted under the title "Love Symbol #2", and adopted as his stage name from 1993 to 2000 to protest his treatment by Warner Bros. Records.
The album is done with The New Power Generation.
It was originally conceived as a "fantasy rock soap opera" with various spoken segues throughout, with its storyline becoming the basis for Prince's direct-to-video film 3 Chains o' Gold.
You should just find this album and listen to it all the way through ...NOW!
Next was "My Name Is Prince" making #36 #25 R&B #20 Rhythmic. (and yes that is Kirstie Alley in the video)
"7" was the American Breakthrough single making #...well 7 on the Hot 100 (#8 Dance Singles #61 R&B #3 Mainstream Top 40 #19 Rhythmic.)
"Damn U" bubbled under the Hot 100 at #8 and made #32 on the R&B chart. By the way, Andy Healy from Albumism said the song is one of "the weak points" on the Love Symbol album, noting that it "underwhelms and feels more like filler". (he's been taken out back and beaten)
"The Morning Papers" made #44 #68 R&B and #18 Top 40 Mainstream, oh and Mr. Andy there says, "that the pop-rock of the song "reinforce that no style or genre was beyond Prince's command". (ok..you're kind of forgiven)
