1987 Mel and Kim released their only album F.L.M. (an acronym for "fun, love and money"...or more likely a play on the sisters' frequent use of the expression "f***ing lovely mate" during the recording sessions for the album.) The album came from the Stock Aitken Waterman house. Three singles were released "Showing Out" (#78 #1 Club w/flip side "System" #23 R&B), "Respectable" (#1 Club), and "F.L.M." Fourth single "I'm the One Who Really Loves You" was only released in the Americas (#9 Club).
The sisters were writing songs for a second album but on 18 January 1990, Mel died suddenly of pneumonia after contracting a cold; her immune system weakened by chemotherapy for her cancer treatments. She was 23.
