1986 - 5150 - Van Halen

40 Years Ago - 1986 Van Halen released their seventh album 5150.

The first with Sammy Hagar as lead singer. The album was named after Eddie Van Halen's home studio, 5150, in turn named after a California law enforcement term for a mentally disturbed person (a reference to Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code).

This was also their first #1 album.

The nickname for the band Van Hagar popped up and even Warner Brothers asked them to consider renaming the band. Of course the Van Halen brothers refused.

"Why Can't This Be Love" peaked at #3 and #1 Mainstream Rock.

"Dreams" made #22 and #6 Mainstream Rock.

"Love Walks In" peaked at #22 and #4 Mainstream Rock.

"Best of Both Worlds" no commercial release but it made #12 Mainstream Rock.
