40 Years Ago - 1984 Chaka Kahn released her fifth solo album I Feel For You.
The title track, written by Prince and featuring Harmonica from Stevie Wonder was a smash! #1 R&B and Club, #3 Hot 100. It became the recipient of two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song (for Prince as songwriter) and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for Khan.
It was originally written for Patrice Rushen who turned it down and The Pointer Sisters did a version in 1982. The repetition of Khan's name by Melle Mel at the beginning of the song was a mistake made by producer Arif Mardin, who then decided to keep it.
