1982 A Flock of Seagulls released their self-titled debut album. The album track "D.N.A." won a Grammy Award in 1983 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Singles in the US were "Telecommunication" a #19 Club hit, "I Ran (So Far Away)" which was their big hit at #9 (#8 Club #3 Mainstream Rock), and "Space Age Love Song" (#30 #59 Rock.)
The band, and particularly this album, were influential during the 1980s for their image and for their production techniques. Record producer Phil Spector called the album "phenomenal."
