1972 saw the release of three albums from major stars.
Michael Jackson released his debut solo album Got To Be There. Four singles were released, and the first two, the title track (#4) and "Rockin' Robin" (#2) were #5 and #6 on the chart in April.
"I Wanna Be Where You Are" (#16 #2 R&B) and "Ain't No Sunshine" (UK releases only) were other singles.
Aretha Franklin released her eighteenth album Young, Gifted and Black. She won a 1972 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. The singles were "Border Song (Holy Moses)" (#37 #5 R&B), "Rock Steady" (#9 #2 R&B), "All the King's Horses" (#26 #7 R&B), "Day Dreaming" (#5 #1 R&B), and "Oh Me Oh My" (#73 #9 R&B.)
Jackson Browne released his debut album featuring the singles "Doctor My Eyes" (#8) and "Rock Me on the Water" (#48.)
