Before Elf on the Shelf, there was Krampus. Today is Krampusnacht or Krampus Night.

The day is based on Krampus, a mythical beast that is half-demon and half-goat. Characteristically similar to some creatures in Greek mythology, it has fangs, horns, cowbells on its waist, and a switch made of birch sticks meant for whipping or swatting naughty children. The harshness of its appearance is fitting, as Krampus comes from the German word "krampen," which means claw.

According to folklore, on the evening of December 5, Krampus punishes children who have been bad by whipping them with his switch. He then takes them to his lair. He is the counterpart to St. Nicholas, a European gift giver who arrives the following day. He is also contrasted with Santa, who rewards those who have been good and are on his "nice" list.

Hope your weekend goes like this. You fall through the ceiling of a liquor store, drink a couple of bottles from the bottom shelf, and fall asleep in the bathroom. Best Life Ever!!!! Oh..and you’re a raccoon. (it happened in Virginia) After several hours of rest, the raccoon showed no signs of being hurt, “other than maybe a hangover and poor life choices,” the shelter it recovered at said.

The season of unwrapping our online lives — or at least a glimpse of what they looked like over the past year — is well underway.

Music streamers, social media sites, and a host of other apps have already started delivering their annual recaps into customers’ inboxes. That gives users a peek at anything from the top songs they had on repeat and the videos they streamed the most, to online language-learning or everyday tips they turned to the internet for in 2025.

Spotify not only has a list of your listening, but is introducing "Wrapped Party," a feature that allows you to compare listening habits with friends who use it too.

And of course, social media runs with "Spotify Shame," where users post their embarrassing top songs (e.g., white noise, children's music, or 2010s glee covers) to prove they are unique.

USAToday as a headline today - How old is too old to shovel snow?

Former American Heart Association volunteer Dr. Barry Franklin says, "Shoveling a little snow off your sidewalk may not seem like hard work. However, the strain of heavy snow shoveling may be as or even more demanding on the heart than taking a treadmill stress test."

Experts have not pinned down an exact age for when it's best to retire from snow shoveling, and recommendations they do have can vary widely.

Dr. John Osborne, AHA volunteer, said adults 65 and older should be "more wary" of snow shoveling and individuals with risk factors for heart disease, such as tobacco use, diabetes, obesity, hypertension or high cholesterol should be extra mindful.

He has said that anyone over age 45 should avoid the task. This recommendation is backed by a 2001 study, which found that about 85% of adults over the age of 50 already experience atherosclerosis, which can lead to coronary artery disease.

Shoveling snow requires arm work, which is more taxing on the heart than leg work.

Strained body while lifting heavy loads, during which most people unknowingly hold their breath, increases heart rate and blood pressure.

Start gradually and pace yourself.

Cover your mouth and nose and wear layered clothing, including a hat and gloves.

Push or sweep the snow rather than lifting and throwing it.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Australia is Wider Than the Moon. The continent of Australia spans approximately 2,485 miles (4,000 km) from east to west. In contrast, the Moon's diameter is only about 2,159 miles (3,474 km).

You could fit the Moon inside Australia's coastline, with room to spare.
