Prime Meridian Day - in 1884, representatives from 25 nations met at the International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C., to agree upon "a meridian to be employed as a common zero of longitude and standard of time reckoning throughout the world." In other words, the conference was for agreeing upon an official line of 0° longitude, known as the Prime Meridian, and for setting up the world's time zones. Prime Meridian Day commemorates this occasion.
The Prime Meridian would run through Greenwich, England, a borough in London.
The treaty adopted at the conference also set the International Date Line at 180° longitude in the Pacific Ocean. There are 24 meridians in total, one every 15°, and there is an hour time difference between each one. Each meridian is one hour earlier than the one to the east of it. However, not all countries adhere to the hour change every 15°. For example, five meridians cross China's terrain, but the whole country is on one time zone.

How was the kids haul last night??? One study estimated that the average American child collects between 3,500 and 7,000 calories of candy on Halloween.
A 100-pound child who consumed 7,000 calories would have to walk for 44 hours or play full-court basketball for 14.5 hours to burn those off.
The key is to dole it out, and candy can last a bit. (which are words I thought I would never say)

To absolutely no one's surprise, Taylor Swift's "Midnights" had a MASSIVE debut week.
It sold almost 1.6 million copies, which is the most albums sold in a week since Adele moved 3.5 million copies of "25" back in December of 2015.
Obviously, "Midnights" is the #1 album on the Billboard 200. It also broke 73 records around the world.
It made Taylor the only artist to have five albums debut with more than a million units sold in their first week.
It sold 575,000 copies on vinyl, which is the largest week for any album since tracking began in 1991.
It broke Spotify's records for most global streams in a five-day period and most single day streams.
The song "Anti-Hero" broke the record for most song streams on the global Spotify chart, with 17.4 million.

Have you ever broken the law by throwing something away? Here are five common things people throw out, even though you shouldn't . . .
1. Batteries. Most states still let you toss standard alkaline batteries, like double-A's. California is an exception. Other types can have things like mercury in them, so they're illegal to throw out. Drop them at a place like Staples instead.
2. Old phones, computers, and other e-waste. More states are making it illegal to throw out your old tech, especially if they have batteries that can't be removed. Again, places like Staples will usually take it all.
3. Old medications. If you toss or flush them, they can end up in the water supply. Your pharmacy might take them for you. The FDA also suggests searching for "drug disposal near me" on Google Maps.
4. Old paint. It can have stuff in it that's flammable or poisonous. So a lot of paint stores and hardware stores will recycle it for you now. Old motor oil is another liquid you shouldn't be tossing or dumping down the drain.
5. Old tires. Tire shops will usually take them off your hands when you get new ones. There might just be a small recycling fee.

Fruitcake is the holiday treat everyone makes fun of, so hey, why not base a whole soda around it?
Fruitcake-flavored Mountain Dew has been spotted on shelves for the holidays. There were rumors about it this summer, and a few YouTubers got their hands on it early. But now it's official.
It's called Mountain Dew "Fruit Quake" and it should roll out nationwide by November. According to the label, it's got a nice blast of "artificial fruitcake flavor." It's the fourth holiday flavor they've done in the past few years. The first in 2017 was called "Holiday Brew". It was regular Mountain Dew mixed with Mountain Dew Code Red, because green plus red equals Christmas.
After that, they did a cranberry-pomegranate soda called "Merry Mash-Up". And last year's was called "Gingerbread Snap'd".
The reviews for the Fruit Quake flavor are mixed so far. Some people love it. But one Mountain Dew super-fan said it's even grosser than the gingerbread flavor. They said it tastes like the inside of an arts-and-crafts store.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The largest pumpkin in U.S. history is now the world's biggest jack-o-lantern.
A guy in Minnesota grew it. It weighed in at 2,560 pounds earlier this month. He had it carved on Friday and went patriotic with it. An artist carved the face of a bald eagle into the front.
We haven't heard from Guinness yet, but it should easily beat the current record, which is owned by the same guy.
He grew one two years ago and had a tiger's face carved into it. But this pumpkin weighed about 200 pounds more than that one.
(Remember..they have a shelf life..don't let them get gross.)
