USAToday has a story on a new dating term called "throning" − which means dating someone to raise your social status. The goal for throners is to land a partner with clout, so their own image gets a boost by association. Unlike "Shrekking," which involves dating down in the hopes that person will treat you better in return, throning involves dating up − for all the wrong reasons.
"Basically, the date is a throne that is used to elevate the person who is doing the throning," one TikToker explains in a video. "The scenario focuses solely on social influence or status and not on building a real emotional connection."
It's not really a new concept, gold digging and clout chasing were older terms for this, but social media has made it worse as you are dating for followers and online influence.

Kohler just debuted a new toilet camera that watches you go, then uses an algorithm to analyze the results and track your health.
It's called "Dekoda" . . . a play on the word "decode" . . . and costs $600. It fits on the side of most toilet bowls and uses optical sensors to scan your waste. Then it spits out stats on your phone.
You sign in on a fingerprint scanner, so it knows whose waste it's scanning. It can tell you whether you're dehydrated, and what percentage of your "sessions" are "regular" each week. It also looks for signs of any blood.
No chance of your privates showing "Dekoda's sensors see down into your toilet and nowhere else."
Oh, and on top of the $600, there's also an annual subscription fee of $70 a year if it's just you, or $130 for the family plan. They're on sale at KohlerHealth.com. The first orders start shipping today.
