When your cellphone, TV, and radio sound an alarm next week, don’t worry. It is only a test.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is set to conduct a test of the nation’s emergency communication systems on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The nationwide test is slated to start around 2:20 p.m., FEMA announced in a news release.

During the test, cell phones across the United States are expected to sound off with a “unique tone and vibration”. The alarm will be accompanied by a text message that will read “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”

The test is meant to determine how well the federal government’s mass communication system would work during an emergency. The last nationwide test took place in 2021.

A 45-year-old dad from Colorado put his physical training to the test by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most chin-ups in one hour.

Frank Sagona performed 1,010 chin-ups in the allowed time, breaking Stephen Hyland's record of 993, which has stood since 2011.

He said his attempt was made extra challenging by a muscle strain in his back the day before his official attempt.

I actually vomited right after the event."

There was a time when people heard the phone ring, and picked it up. But telemarketers, robocalls, and scammers have made it so that 80% of us don't like to answer the phone if it's an unknown number.

In a new poll, 54% of people say they NEVER answer calls from unknown numbers, and another 27% say "it depends." Those may be cases when they're expecting calls from people they don't know . . . personally or for work.

Only 20% of people say they ALWAYS answer them.

33% of us get one to five unknown callers per week. 30% are lucky enough to get LESS than that . . . but 37% of us get MORE, with 8% claiming they get more than 20 per week.

Today’s Useless Fact of the Day - Ketchup probably got its name from a Chinese sauce from the 1600s called koe-chiap. It was made of pickled fish brine and spices.

By the way, there's also catsup. You can find that in some parts of the US, Latin America, and Mexico.
