Lake Superior State has their 49th annual words and phrases they'd like to BANISH from our vocabulary.
Cringe. It's overused. So saying "cringe" can SEEM cringe now.
Game changer. Again, people use it too much, and for things that aren't really a big deal.
Era. Used to describe a new phase of your life. Blame Taylor Swift.
Dropped. Like, "My new album just dropped." They think words like "released" and "introduced" should make a comeback.
IYKYK. Short for "If You Know, You Know." They say it's "irritating and nonsensical." It also just seems forced.
Sorry not sorry. They say it's a "half-hearted apology masquerading as bold honesty." Just say what you mean.
Skibidi. Even Gen Alpha can't agree on it. It can mean cool, bad, dumb, or it can mean nothing. It's just a filler word.
100%. Like, "I agree with you 100%." It's been overused for too many years.
Utilize. Stop trying to sound smart. Just say "use."
Period. Like, "It's the best show on TV, period." Quote, "overuse has turned this into a period we are ready to end."

The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones. It's the eternal rock and roll debate that might be settled (for five minutes.)
An indie rocker named Chris Dalla Riva decided to investigate which band has been more influential. He used Wikipedia's list of 479 mainstream rock performers to see which artists they named as influences.
And the Beatles won.
Here are the results:
1. The Beatles: 210 mentions
2. Led Zeppelin: 151
3. The Rolling Stones: 146
4. U2: 139
5. David Bowie: 127
6. Bob Dylan: 125
7. Elton John: 114
8. Queen: 114
9. Jimi Hendrix: 112
10. Red Hot Chili Peppers: 112
