In a survey of people 21 and over, 52% consider themselves "smart drinkers" . . . meaning they think they've mastered the art of knowing what and how much to drink. Generally speaking, here's what they suggest . . .

Most "smart drinkers" pace themselves at about two drinks per hour, and they typically choose "low-volume alcoholic beverages."

"Smart drinkers" generally eat a meal before drinking . . . and make sure they don't mix different types of alcohol.

Your kid's backpack is covered in 31 times more germs than your disgusting cell phone. So, maybe don't let them toss it on the dinner table when they get home.

Clorox commissioned the study and swabbed a bunch of things in homes with school-aged kids. Here are a few more quick stats . . .

1. When your kids get home from school, their clothes are 28 times germier than the average toilet seat.

2. The average parent's couch is as germy as a dog's tennis ball.

3. Remote controls and video game controllers are 26 times germier than the average bathroom doorknob.

4. 69% of parents are worried about their kids bringing germs home from school.

5. 54% fully expect their kids to get them sick at some point this school year.

You've probably watched a reality TV show and thought, "Who would willingly agree to be on this show?" Well, now we know.

A series of new polls asked people how interested they'd be in competing on THREE types of reality shows: Dating . . . makeovers . . . and home renovation.

21% of people are interested in being on a dating reality show, with 10% being "very" interested. Men are twice as likely to be into it . . . and naturally younger adults were far more eager to sign up than those 45 and older.

32% of people are down to be on a makeover show, with 14% being "very" interested. People from the Northeast and the South are most interested . . . especially women . . . between the ages of 30 and 44.

And 50% of people would do some kind of home renovation reality show, with 24% being "very" interested. Women are more into it than men . . . and somewhat surprisingly, younger adults are more intrigued than older adults.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - School backpacks . . . as they are known today . . . were first used at the University of Washington back in 1972. JanSport was based in Seattle then, and they started modifying backpacks for day-hikers to make durable bags for students to carry books.
