Celebrate National Chocolate Milk, Crush a Can, Corned Beef Hash, Scarf, and Family Day.
--
National Crush a Can day is all about the benefits of recycling. Aluminum cans are the second most recycled material after steel in the United States. Not only is aluminum 100% recyclable, but it also uses 95% less energy to recycle an old can into a new one. However, we still throw out more than 1 million tons of aluminum each year. Unlike some recyclables, aluminum can be recycled over and over.
Interesting Facts:
If you laid all the aluminum cans recycled in 2010 end to end, they could circle the earth 169 times.
The U.S. recycles about 65% of its aluminum.
In America, 105,800 cans are recycled every minute.
Your television can run for 3 hours from the energy saved by recycling one can.
In 2019, an aluminum can was worth about 1.7 cents.
The industry pays more than $1 billion annually for recycled cans.

Last year's whitest paint is just that...so last year!
A team of researchers at Purdue University has created a paint so white that it reflects most solar radiation and could conceivably make air conditioning obsolete. The Guinness Book of Records just declared the paint the whitest ever made, but the goal of the project was sustainability. Because the paint is so ultra-reflective, it absorbs less heat than it emits -- meaning a surface coated with the stuff actually cools its surrounding area without consuming energy. Even interior designers are into the shade, calling it “chic” with a “modern vibe.”
'If you were to use this paint to cover a roof area of about 1,000 square feet, we estimate that you could get a cooling power of 10 kilowatts,' said Xiulin Ruan, a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University.
'That's more powerful than the central air conditioners used by most houses.'

There are currently more than 60 huge container ships lined up off the coast of southern California, waiting to unload their cargo at the state’s overloaded ports. Those ports handle 40% of the country’s imported goods, but even if they were running at full capacity there still aren’t enough truck drivers to get the goods to their final destinations. The head of the Port of L.A. is warning people to be prepared to see bare shelves for some time, and to start their holiday shopping now.
Christmas shopping starts now (should have started last month...do it!)

If someone grabs your iPhone and you have FaceID enabled, you can prevent them from unlocking it (by pointing it at your face) and saying, “Hey Siri, who's phone is this?” That phrase will cause Siri to disable FaceID, and the only way to unlock your phone will be via the passcode.
