9/24/21 Appetizers, SNL, and How to Sound Sick

Friday 9/24/21

Celebrate National Cherries Jubilee, Punctuation, and Schwenkfelder Thanksgiving.

The Schwenkfelders are the descendants of a small Protestant sect that sprang up in Germany around the time of the Reformation. They were followers of Caspar Schwenkfeld, a theologian. He and his followers separated from Protestant circles and formed the brotherhoods that still survive as the Schwenkfelder Church. Most Schwenkfelders now live in Pennsylvania Dutch country.

Seven in 10 of those polled say dips are their favorite appetizer – yet three in four prefer to purchase theirs at a grocery store or make it from scratch rather than ordering it at a restaurant. Interestingly Fifty-two percent said they’d likely jump in a dunk tank, pool or tub filled with their favorite dip if it meant they’d get a year’s free supply.

Saturday Night Live has locked in the first batch of hosts and musical guests for the upcoming season: Owen Wilson and Kacey Musgraves will open the show’s 47th season next weekend, followed by Kim Kardashian and Halsey the following week. That will be the first time a Kardashian has hosted the show. Still no word from NBC on casting changes. SNL will also be livestreamed on Peacock this season for the first time.

In other TV entertainment news, The Tony Awards are Sunday night on CBS.

But there's more!

Debra Messing has some questions about who gets to host NBC's Saturday Night Live — and why one of those hosts is Kim Kardashian West.

"Why Kim Kardashian?" the Will & Grace star asked in a tweet, referring to the recent announcement revealing the first of SNL's next season hosts. "I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch. Am I missing something?"

By the way, the reality star is also launching a new series on Hulu.

Not that I approve of this type of behavior, if you want to sound sick when calling in to work, lie on your back while hanging your head over the edge of the bed. You'll sound congested.
