Actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, best known for her groundbreaking portrayal of Lt. Nyota Uhura in "Star Trek: The Original Series," has died at age 89, according to a statement from her son, Kyle Johnson.
When "Star Trek" began in 1966, Nichols was a television rarity: a Black woman in a notable role on a prime-time television series. There had been African-American women on TV before, but they often played domestic workers and had small roles; Nichols' Uhura was an integral part of the multicultural "Star Trek" crew.
The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. called it "the first non-stereotypical role portrayed by a Black woman in television history." (he even persuaded her to stay in the role.)

Pat Carroll, the gregarious Emmy-winning comedienne who was a television mainstay for decades before segueing to a voiceover career that included portraying the villainous sea witch Ursula in The Little Mermaid, has died. She was 95.
Carroll’s perky personality, screwball wit and impeccable timing made her a great second banana, and Red Buttons, Jimmy Durante, Mickey Rooney, Steve Allen and Charley Weaver were among those who called upon her to make their programs funnier. Her antics on Caesar’s Hour earned her an Emmy in 1957, and she was nominated for her work on the classic variety show the following year.

A rare 1952 Mickey Mantle baseball card just listed on the auction block this week is already garnering bids north of $5 million.
Anthony Giordano of New Jersey purchased the card in 1991 for just $50,000, and now experts estimate its value to be $10 million based on an assessment of its appearance and overall condition. A 1909 Honus Wagner card currently holds the auction record with a $6.6 million sale in 2021. If you have a few million dollars to spare, you have until Aug. 27 to place your bid.

The world continues to mourn after Klondike announced it has discontinued the Choco Taco, a waffle cone shaped like a taco shell and filled with fudge-swirled ice cream that is dipped in chocolate and peanuts.
A Klondike representative cited “an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio” for the demise of the fan-favorite goody. Choco Tacos weren’t typically found on grocery store shelves but gained popularity at pools and ice cream trucks.
I've never had one, but now I want one!!!!!

Another day, another new Nick Cannon child. The Masked Singer host has welcomed his eighth child, his first with Bre Tiesi. The 31-year-old model confirmed her "all natural unmedicated home birth" on Instagram.
This means Cannon has now had children with five different women. He has twins with ex Mariah Carey, two kids with Brittany Bell, twins with Abby De La Rosa, a newborn baby boy with Tiesi, and he also had a son with Alyssa Scott who died last year. "Daddy showed the F up for us," Tiesi wrote on Instagram. "I couldn't of done it without you." Well, yeah, probably not. Cannon, who has said his attempt at celibacy failed miserably, recently told Entertainment Tonight it's "safe to bet" he'll have at least three more kids in 2022 — though he refused to provide an exact number, as "that would take all the fun out of it."
Dude..have you ever heard of a condom?

A poll of 2,000 Millennial parents found only 55% know all the words to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" . . . 53% know "Baa Baa Black Sheep" . . . 51% know "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" . . . and just 43% know "Rock-a-Bye Baby".
Here are the first lines from each song. See if you know the NEXT line.
1. "Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are" ("Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky")
2. "Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?" ("Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full")
3. "Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream" ("Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.")
4. "Rock-a-bye baby on the tree top / When the wind blows the cradle will rock" ("When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall / And down will come baby, cradle and all")

Quentin Tarantino - you know the director of movies like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Reservoir Dogs - thinks the greatest British import of the decade is..... "Peppa Pig." He watches it a lot with his two-year-old son Leo.
In an interview for "Empire", he also said that his son's first movie was "Despicable Me 2". Split up, of course, in smaller parts over the course of a week.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The University of Alabama's football practice fields are near a few apartment complexes . . . but people who live there have it in their leases that they can't watch the practices.
