Joey Chestnut easily won the hot dog-eating contest (again) for the 16th time, and while his performance this year was solid ... it still wasn't as good as years past.
JC ate 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes, which secured him the victory and the belt.
Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest was almost canceled Tuesday at Coney Island ... all on account of a massive thunderstorm that rolled through, which dumped a ton of rain and lightning onto the area -- and sent patrons running for cover.
Miki Sudo was victorious in the women's division, eating 39.5 hot dogs in 10 minutes, her ninth win.

Olivia Rodrigo is going to prom. She just met her date on Thursday night.
Olivia was at YouTube headquarters in California for the premiere of her new video "Vampire", and a kid straight up asked her to his prom. She said, quote, "Oh my god! I've always wanted to go to prom!"
Then she asked for his number so they could make it happen.
“Wait, are you serious?” the high schooler, visibly shocked, asked before Rodrigo suddenly snubbed him and walked away to take pictures with other fans.
When she noticed his phone, she looked straight ahead and kept walking.
Sorry, Charlie.
"Vampire" is the first single from Olivia's album "Guts", which is dropping on September 8th.

Two idiots in San Jose, California are in big trouble after they stored at least 20 tons of illegal FIREWORKS in multiple units at a Public Storage facility, and an entire building went up. It happened a few weeks ago, but police just revealed the cause.
Two guys were connected to the units . . . 45-year-old Anthony DaSilva, and 25-year-old Nathaniel Valassis. But they're in trouble for more than just fireworks, because police got a warrant to search their homes and also found DRUGS.
They recovered over 13 ounces of meth, 200 grams of cocaine, a bunch of weed, a handgun, and $4,800 in cash. So they're going away for a long time.
Meanwhile, the fire destroyed between 40 and 50 other storage units. So all those people lost their stuff.

Sleeping in separate beds may be making a comeback. It's something a lot of couples did back in the '50s and '60s. Now a new poll found half of couples today would be open to the idea if it helped them sleep better.
If any of THESE things are an issue, it might help: 2,000 people named the most annoying things about sharing a bed with someone. Here are the top five . . .
1. When they steal the covers.
2. When their tossing and turning wakes you up.
3. When they fall asleep with the TV on.
4. When they won't stop snoring.
5. When they've got lights on while you're trying to sleep.

An upcoming film about Barney the dinosaur from Daniel Kaluuya will be "surrealistic" like the work of Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze, Mattel Films executive Kevin McKeon told The New Yorker. "We're leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids," he said. "It's really a play for adults." McKeon stressed the film won't be R-rated but will be an "A24-type" movie exploring the "trials and tribulations of being thirtysomething, growing up with Barney — just the level of disenchantment within the generation," which will "underscore that we're here to make art."

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie have welcomed their second child together.
A rep for the actors confirmed the news to People, revealing they are "delighted to have welcomed a little girl into the family." Harington and Leslie met while working together on "Game of Thrones," in which they played on-screen lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte. After tying the knot in 2018, they welcomed their first child together, a boy, in 2021.

Independence Day Left Overs -
In 1885, French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi dismantled his gleaming copper-skinned creation — a gift to the U.S. from the French people — into 350 pieces for its voyage across the Atlantic. The statue was eventually rebuilt atop Bedloe’s Island (now called Liberty Island) in New York Harbor, but during the next two decades or so, the landmark underwent a prominent color change.
The now-familiar minty tint is actually a patina, a common coating that forms on copper as well as its alloys brass, and bronze. The patina is a result of the chemical reactions the statue has endured in its environment, an urban center surrounded by water.
Don't worry..it's all natural, and actually protects the statue.
Number of pennies that could be made from the Statue of Liberty’s copper exterior - 435 million
The women’s shoe size that would be required to contain the statue’s 25-foot-long feet - 879
