Bob Newhart, the beloved stand-up performer whose droll, deadpan humor showcased on two critically acclaimed CBS sitcoms vaulted him into the ranks of history’s greatest comedians, died Thursday morning. He was 94.

He won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best New Artist for his 1960 breakthrough record, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart.

He had two very popular sitcoms, 1972's The Bob Newhart Show, and 1982's Newhart with one of the best final episodes ever in the history of TV!!!

The former accountant famously went without an Emmy Award until 2013, when he finally was given one for guest-starring as Arthur Jeffries (alias Professor Proton, former host of a children’s science show) on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

I would say he is one of the most gracious actors, playing the straight man to all the insanity happening around him.

Weekend at the Movies

Twisters - (like we need this out right now) - An update to the 1996 film 'Twister', which centered on a pair of storm chasers who risk their lives in an attempt to test an experimental weather alert system.

Starring Anthony Ramos, Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Maura Tierney.

The 2024 Emmy nominees were announced, and "The Bear" set a record for most nominations for a comedy series, with 23. "30 Rock" held the previous record, with 22.

Speaking of records, the legendary Carol Burnett became the oldest woman to get an acting nomination, for "Palm Royale". She's 91.

Ryan Gosling got his first Emmy nod for hosting the episode of "Saturday Night Live" that featured the now-infamous "Beavis and Butthead" sketch.

The Emmys will be Live on ABC September 15th.

Everyone knows they should cut back on sugar a bit.

The American Heart Association recommends a limit of NINE added teaspoons of sugar for men, and just six for women . . . and EVERYONE is blowing past that.

There's a map online that breaks down sugar intake, by state.  And the state with the biggest sweet tooth is Kentucky, with 21.2 teaspoons per day.

Mississippi is next, and the other sugar-heavy states include:  Oklahoma . . . Arkansas . . . West Virginia . . . South Dakota . . . Indiana . . . Pennsylvania . . . Tennessee . . . Alabama . . . Georgia . . . South Carolina . . . and Hawaii.

Alaska is the state with the lowest average intake, at 14.8 teaspoons.  That's STILL around double the recommended amount.

Oregon is close behind, and the other low-sugar states are:  California, Washington, Idaho, Montana, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey.

A TikTok hack that is actually ok??

If you want to make the best scrambled eggs of your life, try adding a little seltzer water. The bubbles are supposed to make them airier and fluffier.

It doesn't take much. Just add one teaspoon to your mixture for every two eggs you're making.

Just make sure you only use plain seltzer.  If you use a flavored La Croix, your eggs will taste weird . . . and don't use White Claw either.

It works because the bubbles quickly expand from the heat and fluff everything up.

There's a report out on how some parents are willing to do whatever it takes to save money on back-to-school stuff . . . and THIS seems excessive:

12% of parents have admitted to stealing stuff from work . . . to give to their kids as school supplies. They didn't specify whether this is pens, markers, and notebooks . . . or bigger stuff like backpacks, calculators, and tablets.

That's not even the craziest thing.  5% of parents said they're even willing to go DUMPSTER DIVING if it can help cut costs.

Other parents have more reasonable tactics, like looking out for back-to-school sales . . . going to multiple stores to find the best deals . . . couponing . . . or even buying in bulk, and then trading supplies with other parents.

Dumpster diving is technically legal in all 50 states.

Tampering with a lock on a dumpster is illegal. Also don't trespass on private property.

What is the best thing to drink on a plane?

Fresh coconut water . . . from your carry-on.

A nutrition influencer on social media says he always packs coconuts to crack open and drink on the plane.  A coconut can hold between seven and 34 ounces of coconut water inside . . . depending on the type and maturity.

He says it's packed with magnesium, manganese, and "all kinds of good stuff."

And yes, the TSA DOES allow whole, unopened coconuts . . . despite it being over the three-ounce liquid limit.

So how do you crack them open on the plane?

Coconuts have three "eyes," and one of them is soft.  Just bring a metal straw, which is also allowed, and jab it into the soft eye.  Then, ENJOY.

(they also make a pretty awesome horse!)

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - The Konami Code of video games . . . a.k.a. the "Contra Code" (up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start) . . . has appeared in over 100 games.  It has been called the cheat code equivalent of "Open Sesame."
