Saint Swithin's Day - He was originally buried in front of the Old Minster Cathedral—the cathedral that preceded the Winchester Cathedral—as he had requested. He wanted this to be his resting place so that rain would fall on his grave, and because "the feet of ordinary men could pass over him." His remains were moved, and this was seen as going against Swithin's wishes, and legend has it that it then rained over the cathedral for 40 days—a sign of heaven's anger at the reburial. According to legend, whatever the weather is on that day, it is supposed to be the same for the next 40 days. If it is rain, then it will continue to rain; if it is sunny, the sun won't let up for 40 days.

TMZ has obtained a copy of the rigorous guidelines the 160,000 union members are required to follow until the strike ends ... and it cites the expected no-nos like acting, singing, and doing motion capture work in front of a camera.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg, because they also aren't allowed to do any voice acting, narrating, or re-recording their voice for a scene, also known as dubbing.

In addition, performers can't attend costume fittings, makeup tests, or rehearsals and they can't audition for upcoming projects.

There's also a ban on promotion, in every form -- they can't do interviews, tours, fan expos and conventions, podcast appearances, award shows or even post about a project on social media.

One of the first events affected is San Diego Comic-Con!

There's a heat wave in parts of the country. From Washington State the Southwest and across the South. Phoenix Arizona will have its 13th day of 110+ heat.

And parts of central and southern Europe are facing their own heat wave. Temperatures in Mediterranean Europe were forecast to reach up to 113 F today, and temps could soon approach 120 F on the Italian islands of Sardinia and Sicily. Zookeepers in Madrid helped keep the animals cool with custom-made popsicles, including watermelon-flavored versions for pandas and bears and frozen buckets of meat for the lions.

Do you love fish but worry about all the mercury that's in it? A new study figured out the safest time of year to eat it. Fish caught in the fall tends to have less mercury. They say summer's not a bad time to eat it either.

But any time of the year might be a bad time to eat it from the gas station.

Elon Musk launched a new A.I. company this week called xAI. He plans for it to "work closely with [Twitter] and Tesla." But the website says its core goal is to, quote, "understand the true nature of the universe."

Buzzfeed has collected the best food hacks, the ones they claim are actually worth it, and they include:

1. Using a baby monitor to keep an eye on the temperature of a smoker.

2. Eating a hard taco OVER a soft tortilla shell . . . and with everything that drops out of the first taco, you get a second taco.

3. Mathematically, one 18-inch pizza has more pizza than TWO 12-inch pies.

4. Mixing a few cereals together, for variety AND to regulate sweetness levels.

5. For easy-to-eat s'mores, try making them in ice cream cones.

6. If you don't have a cake dome, use a Tupperware container upside down.

7. Using a ramen packet for popcorn seasoning . . . just mix the powder with some melted butter, and maybe some chili powder.

8. Using the bottom of a bottle of wine . . . if it has a deep indented center . . . as a press to make homemade ravioli.

9. Steaming your vegetables while cooking pasta noodles . . . by placing a cookie cooling rack over your pot of boiling spaghetti, adding the veg on it, then laying the lid over the top so they'll steam over the pasta.

10. Putting a koozie on your ice cream pint . . . so you can keep your hand warm, and the ice cream cold.
