1988 Bonnie Tyler
1988 Bonnie Tyler

Bonnie Tyler, the raspy-voiced Welsh singer known for the hit ‘80s songs “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” has died at 75.

The news comes two months after the three-time Grammy nominee underwent emergency intestinal surgery in Faro, Portugal, in May.

She first appeared on the US scene with her 1977 #3 hit "It's a Heartache."

It wasn’t until she released “Total Eclipse of the Heart” in 1983 that Tyler found mainstream success; the single turned her into a household name.

The power ballad became Tyler’s first and only number one single. Her subsequent album, Faster Than The Speed of Night, produced by Meat Loaf producer Jim Steinman, was the first album by a female artist to debut at number one in Britain, and heralded a new rock style for her.

A couple of food products with interesting names have actually been prophetic!

The Death by Chicken burger in New Zealand was recalled because....of undercooked chicken! “Symptoms of campylobacteriosis include diarrhea, fever, headache, muscle aches, abdominal pain and vomiting. Symptoms appear within 2 to 5 days but sometimes can take up to 10 days.”

Yikes!!!

And in Tennessee, a food truck named TNT Tacos...exploded!

It was the day before their 25th wedding anniversary.

The day after the explosion, the McPhersons celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at the hospital covered in gauze and in pain — but still together and holding hands, according to photos posted by their daughter, Jada Pastrana, who started the fundraiser.

Today's Useless Fact of the Day - Where did the idea for the Weed Eater come from??

The late George C. Ballas Sr. was a Houston entrepreneur and got the idea for it while sitting in a car wash. He wondered whether the idea of spinning bristles, like the ones cleaning his car, could be applied to trimming grass and weeds in areas a lawnmower couldn’t reach. He experimented with fishing wire that poked through holes in a tin can attached to the rotary of a lawn edger and found that the spinning wires easily sliced through grass. Ballas founded his Weed Eater company in Houston in 1971.
