Sunday 6/20/21
Celebrate National American Eagle, Hike with a Geek, Vanilla Milkshake, Ice Cream Soda, Turkey Lover's, and Seashell Day.
Happy Father's Day! The idea came to Mrs. John Dodd as she sat listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Her father, William Smart, had raised his children alone on his Washington farm after his wife died giving birth to their sixth child. Mrs. Dodd proposed to the Spokane Ministerial Association and the YMCA that they celebrate a "father's day" on June 5, her father's birthday. The idea received strong support, but the good ministers of Spokane asked that the day be changed to give them extra time to prepare sermons on the unexplored subject of fathers. The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington, and soon other towns had their own celebrations. In spite of widespread support, Father's Day did not become a permanent national holiday until 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed a law declaring that it be celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June.

An annual survey on America's favorite vegetables just came out. And broccoli is #1 again.
It's the #1 vegetable in 30 different states. So it still dominates with more than half the country. But the overall number of people who say it's their favorite is down 23% since 2019.
Carrots are booming for some reason, with five times more people saying it's their favorite compared to two years ago.
They're the most popular vegetable in 12 states: California, Washington, Alaska, Utah, Montana, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Delaware, and Connecticut.
The only other veggie that ranked first anywhere was CORN with eight states. And most of them are in the Midwest: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Kentucky, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Maine.

Attention all parents: Pixar’s newest flick, Luca, drops on Disney+ Friday. The animated film follows a sea monster and his adventures along the Italian Riviera. The reviews are excellent, with the New York Times calling it the kind of movie “that will turn adult viewers into bawling, trembling wrecks.”
