For nearly five years, Netflix has had simple thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons to express viewing preferences and help its algorithms provide better recommendations. However, in surveys, people frequently expressed that this binary type of voting didn’t really do their taste justice.
What if they were really, truly in love with a show?
Tasked to come up with a better way to express such levels of adoration, the streaming service recently explored the idea of adding a heart icon to the Netflix app. The heart seemed like an obvious choice. It’s a universal sign of love, and widely used in apps like Instagram and Twitter.
But Netflix wouldn’t be Netflix if the company didn’t put features like these through some rigorous testing; in this case, it took nearly a year. During that time, the company discovered that hearts were actually not the best-performing feature after all, and instead settled on a new two-thumbs-up option that is being made available to its subscribers worldwide this week.

A new study out of the American College of Cardiology has found that drinking two to three cups of coffee a day could add YEARS to your life.
The study was comprehensive. It tracked more than 400,000 people for at least a decade. The researchers say they found that coffee actually lowers the risk of heart disease and dangerous heart rhythms.
They say coffee is even safe for people with cardiovascular disease, because it either has a positive or neutral effect. Even drinking more than three to six cups isn't bad, it just won't provide any additional benefit.
Researchers also pointed out that coffee beans have over 100 nutritious plant chemicals in them. They can "dampen oxidative stress and inflammation" . . . and improve insulin sensitivity and metabolism.
Keep in mind this is REGULAR coffee . . . not the sugary creations from Starbucks.

Comedy legend Gilbert Gottfried has died at the age of 67.
In a statement from his family released Tuesday, they announced, "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor."
Gilbert's rep, Glenn Schwartz, tells us he died from a heart abnormality called Ventricular Tachycardia due to Myotonic Dystrophy type II.
Of course, Gilbert did plenty of voicework too, voicing Iago on "Aladdin" and the Aflac Duck in the early 2000s.
