25 Years Ago - 1997 Mariah Carey released her sixth album Butterfly.
Five singles were released, "Honey" (#1 Hot 100, Club, Rhythmic, #10 Mainstream top 40, #2 R&B) was Carey's third single to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100, setting the record for most singles to debut at number one, a record she held for 23 years until it was broken by Ariana Grande.
"Butterfly" was not released as a commercial single (#16 Radio Songs, #11 AC, #12 #27 R&B, #8 Rhythmic.)
"The Roof (Back in Time)" was released overseas.
The final single was "My All" (#1 (amazing what happens when you release a commercial single..idiots), #18 AC #5 Club #4 R&B, #18 Mainstream Top 40, #8 Rhythmic.)
The limited releases were due to Carey's conflict at the time with Sony. (way to not reap dollars record company.)
The album is a great representation of what R&B/Hip Hop was at the time. Not a bad listen today.
