40 Years Ago - 1984 The Pretenders released their third album Learning to Crawl.
The title was given in honor of Chrissie Hynde's then-infant daughter who was learning to crawl.
"Back on the Chain Gang" was the first single was a #5 smash. (#4 Top Rock Tracks)
"My City Was Gone" was originally the B-side of "Back.." and became a #11 hit. Note that the opening of this song became the theme song for The Rush Limbaugh show. He chose it because of the irony of a conservative using such an anti-conservative song, though he mainly liked its "unmistakable, totally recognizable bass line."
He didn't license or ask permission, but Hynde said she didn't mind the use and asked that an agreed upon usage arrangement money would go to support PETA.
The album also featured "2000 Miles" which has become a Christmas song. It did hit #15 in the UK.
"Thin Line Between Love and Hate" peaked at #83
