1982 - 40 Years Ago

1982 Toto released their fourth album IV. If I remember correctly, we drove in a snowstorm to get this at a Gold Circle between Alliance and Canton Ohio. The album received three Grammy Awards in 1983 out of six nominations, Album of the Year, Producer of the Year for the band, and Record of the Year for "Rosanna".

"Roseanna" made #2 for five weeks (#17 AC #8 Rock) The song was written by David Paich, who has said that the song is based on numerous girls he had known. As a joke, the band members initially played along with the common assumption that the song was based on Rosanna Arquette, who was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time and coincidentally had the same name. Arquette herself played along with the joke, commenting in an interview that the song was about "my showing up at 4 a.m., bringing them juice and beer at their sessions." Patrick Swayze is an uncredited dancer in the music video.

Other singles were "Make Believe" (#30), "Africa" their only #1 ever (#5 AC), "I Won't Hold You Back" (#10 #1 AC), and "Waiting For Your Love" (#73 #27 AC.)
